Chat with MLBTR's Steve Adams: 4/26/22

Steve Adams

They've allowed 6.8 runs per game over their last five. They're probably in the process of doing so. The pitching staff just isn't very good.

Can I get Montas from Oakland for Nootbar and Jake Woodford?
Steve Adams
3:00
Nope

Hey Steve, Who has a better long term future Cristian McKenzie or Tanner Houck?
Steve Adams
3:00
I'll take Tristan McKenzie by a good margin between the two.
3:01
White Sox announced that Eloy had surgery to repair a tendon connecting his hamstring to his knee. The 6-8 week timetable remains unchanged.

Why qpuld the A's move Murphy? Not even arb eligible yet.
Steve Adams
3:01
Because he'll be arb-eligible next winter, demand could be large and they're deep in catching depth as an organization (Langeliers, Soderstrom)

Does MLBTR have a moratorium on Trevor Bauer questions? Will he ever play again?
Steve Adams
3:02
I took one last week, and basically said the same thing I'll say now: I have no insight as to when or whether he'll pitch again. I don't think anyone does right now.

Will the make any moves to bolster their offense and at what Position?  I think Josh Bell would be a large.
Steve Adams
3:06
Bell makes sense if they're comfortable playing Owen Miller more at 2B and moving Gimenez to shortstop. I think a more clear-cut outfield upgrade would be more prudent. I'm not a huge Josh Naylor believer, personally.
Trevor Bauer

Why do you keep the comments closed on his articles yet you leave the Covid articles open for comment?  #mlbtrlogic
Steve Adams
3:06
Because we polled our readers about which topics they want comments open on and which they'd prefer them closed on.

Can the Brewers win the Central without adding a middle of the order bat to this line up?
Steve Adams
3:09
Given the pitching they have, sure, but they could obviously use another bat. That much was evident even prior to the season, though.
Buccos
3:09
Any chance the Pirates early season contributors continue to impress? I'm thinking Chavis, Crowe, Vogelbach, etc?
Steve Adams
3:10
I like Crowe as a viable multi-inning bullpen piece, yeah. Not as bullish on Vogelbach or particularly Chavis to keep it up.
Buxton or Trout?
3:11
Assuming both are healthy, who are you taking?
Steve Adams
3:12
Buxton's been nearly as good a hitter since 2020 in about the same number of plate appearances, and he's a better defender than Trout at this point:

But, even with some of Trout's recent health struggles, you have to feel better about him staying healthy than Buxton.

The “Yankees Letter” has been revealed…. what are you’re thoughts?
Steve Adams
3:13
They used the video replay room to relay signs to runners on second base. Did we learn anything new from this other than the fact that MLB issued a comically weak fine? ($100K)

John Camargo looks good and he's cheap....Thoughts on the Phils trading Segura/Gregorious and roll with Camargo @2b and Stott @ss
Steve Adams
3:16
Camargo isn't doing anything new. He's not making a lot of hard contact. He's not walking a lot. He's putting the ball in play and has had some good fortune (.342 BABIP), but I think he's still the same slightly below-average hitter he's always been. He's a fine utility piece, but I'm not moving Segura to free up time for him, nor do I think Segura would fetch a great return.

Re polling readers about closing comments: Is that tongue in cheek? Why would any reader want comments closed? If you don't like comments on an article you don't have to read them. It seems like a more realistic reason for closing comments would be that it's too hard to moderate topics that have political overtones.
Steve Adams
We polled the readers.
3:18
Sorry if you don't like it.
3:19
Genuinely mean that last part, too. I understand it's a frustrating topic for a lot of people. We got enough complaints about moderating comments and about allowing too many comments that skew away from baseball that we just asked what the majority wanted.
Sano
3:20
I know it's early but this isn't exactly anything new, does he finish the season on the Twins roster?
Steve Adams
3:22
If he keeps hitting like this, probably not. This also isn't new, but he's making a bunch of hard contact and has a pretty sizable gap between his actual wOBA and expected wOBA. Sano stunk for two months last year then hit quite well from June onward. I'm sure the Twins are frustrated with the peaks and valleys, but I imagine he'll get a bit of leash here to see if he can get things right. With this being the final guaranteed year of his contract, though, I think there's less leash than in past years -- particularly with Jose Miranda having mashed through the minors last year, giving the Twins another near-MLB-ready bat to consider.

Is Preller's seat getting hotter? Couldn't upgrade the offense due to bad contracts he handed out, and now they are paying for it.
Steve Adams
3:23
He's like 14 months removed from a promotion and a five-year extension. I don't think we're at "hot seat' levels yet.

3:24
Which teams do you think will be interesting in signing Aaron Judge to a long term deal(7+ years) this offseason?
Steve Adams
3:25
The majority of contenders with any semblance of payroll capacity. That's a boring answer, but it's true. Everyone would want Judge, and he's the type of talent a lot of teams would displace a lesser option in order to acquire.

What do I do about my injury plagued outfield? Who do I go after? Do I trade Vaughn/Sheets for Reynolds/Mullins or go the cheaper route and trade/sign JBJ/Gardner?
