He Steve, last year the mariners had a good record the first half of the year although their run  differential was negative so it was going to be hard for them to continue that pace, this year their run differential is almost positive 30, so are they a better team than most thought? Can they win a wild card?

I've said all spring that I think the Mariners are a much better team than people are crediting them for. I've regularly been asked if they're going to lose 100 games or have a chance to pick first in 2020, which is nuts to  me. They subtracted a lot of guys, sure, but they added quality MLB pieces like Domingo Santana, Mallex Smith, Omar Narvaez -- even Jay Bruce and Anthony Swarzak can be useful pieces. Same for Encarnacion.

I don't think they're a Wild Card team, but I think they're closer to .500 than most expect. I wouldn't be STUNNED to see them win a Wild Card, but I don't think it's likely, and I don't think a small-sample run differential is indicative of the roster quality.

is it worth checking out a game in Seattle?  I'm thinking about checking out a Jays game there.

Any thoughts on Griffin Canning of the Halos? Could see see MLB time this year? Should he? Also, is this Trout kid any good? Or is it just a small sample size?

Already has some significant AAA experience under his belt after skyrocketing through the system last season, and he got up to 115ish innings on the year, so they'll be fine bumping his workload into the mid-100s, innings-wise. Definite chance he's up in the Majors this year, but probably not until this summer. He still hasn't had much success in AAA, though the K/BB numbers are strong.
