mid-level prospect and alcantara in the same sentence does not compute
Steve Adams

Hey, someone's got to be the third, fourth, fifth piece in the deal!

Has Liberatore figured it out?
Steve Adams
2:33
I don't buy that he suddenly has like 70 or 80 command, but he's getting more chases and leaning more into his changeup, which was his best pitch last year. He's not this good, but I buy him as a credible mid-rotation arm, yeah, which is a nice development for a Cardinals team that's a year removed from having to buy a rotation of veterans aged between 34 and 37

So the A’s, Giants or Twins are doing pretty well. Do any of them have a shot at a wildcard?

I tend to think at this point that any of them can get there, yeah
Pads
2:35
I can see the Pads and Guardians on a collision course for a Steve Kwan trade.
Steve Adams
2:35
I cannot see the Guardians trading Kwan, though as a Padres fan I can understand your want for one of the game's best LFs.

We don't have even 10% of active participants voting in that poll! C'mon all! Ha

Tell us how much you love Jordan Lawlar.  Will he make a splash immediately?
Steve Adams
2:37
I do love Jordan Lawlar and do think he's going to hit a whole bunch for the D-backs.

I have a feeling the trade deadline will be very underwhelming, there won't be a ton of big names moving, your thoughts?
Steve Adams
2:39
I find trades for unexpectedly available mid-range guys more interesting than the ones for big names we all expect to move anyhow, and with this year's parity in the AL and lack of clear sellers, I think we'll get plenty of that. So I disagree, but only because it seems like we find different types of trades interesting, which is fine. To each their own

If Ben Livly is down for a bit of time. Koby Allard has to get a shot by now right? I get people want strike outs and swings and misses, but I prefer outs, and there are 7 guys standing behind you for a reason

Allard has a pretty long track record telling us that this year's 15 innings isn't representative of his abilities. People like strikeouts because they're the most sustainable and repeatable way for a pitcher to help his own cause. Relying on the defense to convert 77% of balls in play into outs -- as Allard has thus far en route to his 1.20 ERA -- isn't a good recipe for sustained success.

They might have to give Allard a look at some point, but I don't expect it would go well over any large number of starts.

What do the Yankees do with Ben Rice once Stanton comes back?
Steve Adams
2:45
Keep playing him as much as possible. He's hitting .256/.360/.558 with a 10% walk rate and elite batted-ball metrics. You don't sit that down. Ben Rice looks legitimately excellent. Probably not 60% better than average, like he presently is with the bat, but damn good.
