The D-backs aren't going to trade that much future value for a pair of guys who are free agents post-2023. Obviously Matt McClain is controlled longer, but conceptually, it doesn't even make sense given where the Snakes are at relative to the division leaders and short-term expectations for the franchise.

I have heard that MLB is banning the shift in 2023, why? I just get dont get why more players cant hit the other way . any thoughts?

"Just hitting it the other way" was a lot easier when the average fastball was 8 mph slower, every pitcher didn't have a lethal, 60-grade breaking ball, and analytically driven advance scouting didn't exist.

The notion of "just go the other way" is probably the most overly simplistic criticism of today's hitters there is. If it were that easy, they'd do it.

To be clear, I hate the idea of banning the shift and arbitrarily capping teams' strategy and creativity, when the original "positions" were never designated by rules in the first place. But the notion that everyone should just bunt or slap the ball oppo doesn't float, either.

Is the extra inning ghost runner on 2nd going to become permanent?

I think they'll find an excuse to keep it. I hope I'm wrong.
