No way the Braves give up Pache for Frazier. I'd be surprised for Wright, too. Frazier is a nice player, but he's a good-not-star type who plays two positions (2B, LF) where supply typically outweighs demand.

Baseball contracts don't contain a morality clause?  Even if Ozuna is convicted and jailed for a year once out the Braves HAVE to reinstate him?  I am dumbfounded.
Steve Adams

If he serves jail time, that would change the equation, but I am not going to speculate one way or another on what that outcome will be. When I said they can't void the deal, I meant they can't void it in the event current allegations or even a potential suspension. I probably answered that too quickly. Wasn't trying to mislead, apologies.

Are you surprised I haven’t been signed?
Steve Adams

He signed with a team in Mexico.

Could Atlanta be a destination for me?

I don't think there's any trade interest in Upton even with the recent hot streak.

My friend and I are debating if a player can play himself out of the HOF. I say he can. Having more mediocre/bad years than good/excellent years should be considered when voting. Example: Pujols. No longer a HOFer in my mind. Yea, the first 10 years were great. But he hasn't been good - or close to it - in over a decade.
Steve Adams

Calling the first 10 years "great" undersells how good he was. It was one of the best decades ever. His next five years were fine, generally productive. The last five, sure, he's been pretty rough, but he's a unanimous Hall of Famer.
I expect he'll be a unanimous HOFer*

If halos kick in 75 % of money owed can I be traded?
Steve Adams

Upton is making $23MM in 2021 and $28MM in 2022. Even if the Angels ate 75% of the money, you're talking about $13MM over two years. That's more than he'd get on the open market. And he has a no-trade clause, to boot.

Is reforming the arbitration process the most certain outcome of the next CBA? It seems as though it still overpays for stats we knew didn't matter a decade ago while not valuing what does.
Steve Adams

Beyond those very real concerns, it also pays players a fraction of their market value when their actual on-field value is at its peak. More often than not, by the time they reach the market, their best years are behind them and teams are reluctant to compensate them at a rate commensurate with their peak performance. It's a backwards-thinking system that I think the MLBPA will work hard to amend.

Who had the better day? Player 1 who went 4-4 with 4 singles, player 2 who went 1-4 with a home run or player 3 who went 2-4 with 2 doubles. That's all the information you get.
Steve Adams

On that specific day, I'll take the 4-for-4. Can't do any better than a perfect OBP and four chances to keep the line moving. I realize the homer has a guaranteed run involved, but I'll still take the four hits and put some trust in the guys around him.

Ok, I ran a bit longer this week to try to make up for last week's lack of a chat. I've got to wrap it up for this week, however. I'm on Twitter @Adams_Steve. Feel free to ask more questions there, hurl insults or share whatever random musings cross your mind. I'll do a chat with our Front Office subscribers Friday, Mark chats on the site this weekend, and I'll have another open chat next Tuesday.

Have a great week everyone!
