Chat with MLBTR's Steve Adams: 6/14/22

I think Carlos Correa would be open to 8/280 with the Twins regardless of the Lewis injury, ha. I have a hard time seeing Minnesota offering it, but I'd also have said "I have a hard time seeing the Twins offer Correa 3/105.3 with multiple opt-outs"

Should I trade Trey Mancini at the deadline, or should I extend the fan favorite?
Steve Adams
3:15
Nothing the Orioles have done suggests they're willing to extend Mancini. He'll probably be moved -- likely for a return fans find underwhelming. It won't be popular among the fanbase or in the clubhouse, even though it's the sensible move if they're not going to sign him.

Who the hell do I play at second base now?
Steve Adams
3:18
Orlando Arcia and Phil Gosselin. If they want to get a short-term veteran they can look at Cesar Hernandez, Brandon Drury (old friend!) or maybe Adam Frazier. All free agents at season's end.
Your Opinion

The vaunted Brewers rotation depth is down to.....claiming Chi Chi Gonzalez?  Were they really only six deep or is there something they know no one else does?
Steve Adams
3:20
Gonzalez is probably ticketed for long relief, as I wrote at the time of the claim. Even with Woodruff and Peralta on the IL, they have Burnes, Lauer, Ashby and Houser, which is a strong quartet
3:21
The love for the Brewers' rotation was always about how dominant the top-end was -- not necessarily about the crazy depth behind it. They're not the Rays, Guardians etc. in that regard.
Adam

I haven't seen any timelines announced for him, but what's the probability Miguel Sano even sets foot on the field for the Twins again this season or at all? Seems like they can't find a space for Alex Kirilloff, and he's probably ahead of Sano at this point. Is it more a question of what injuries the club is facing when Sano is actually ready to return?
Steve Adams
3:23
With how well Arraez has taken to first base and how well Kirilloff is hitting in AAA, I wouldn't be shocked if Sano were reinstated from the IL and designated for assignment (though I imagine they'll try to see if they can get him going for a little bit first). The contract is up at season's end, and they have to be ready to just move on.

With Ryu having TJS and if Guardians are out of the race, do the Blue Jays go after Shane Bieber???
Steve Adams
3:24
Ryu is having elbow surgery and it's not clear yet if it'll be a full Tommy John. Regardless, I don't see why that singularly would be the prompt to go get Bieber, nor do I envision the Guardians moving him. Cleveland's only a half-game out of the Wild Card race at the moment anyhow.

Cesar Hernandez would seemingly be a cheap fit for the White Sox or Braves. What type of prospect would he bring back to the Nats?
Steve Adams
3:27
Not much. And the White Sox already traded for Hernandez a year ago, then let him walk rather than take a $5MM team option on him, so I don't see them going that route. Cleveland got lefty Konnor Pilkington for him, a 25-year-old who wasn't regarded among the 30 best prospects in a bad White Sox farm system.
3:28
Doesn't mean there's no value there. Pilkington has debuted this year and pitched OK in 22 innings. But the return for Cesar isn't going to be anything special.

3:29
Will someone trade for Dinelson Lamet?
Steve Adams
3:30
Big arm but tons of injury history there. I'm sure the Padres are open to the idea since they need to clear some luxury room. There's a decent chance someone takes a chance on him if he's healthy, but at this point I have to imagine most teams view him as a reliever.

How can guys like Bellinger, Yelich and Bregman go from Most valuable or near most valuable players to what's happened in the last two and half years
Steve Adams
3:31
Injuries suck. Bellinger wrecked his shoulder. Yelich broke his kneecap, etc.
The Cubs
3:32
Are we going to wait out 2023 until both Hendricks and Heyward are cleared off the books before we start spending again?
Steve Adams
3:32
Wouldn't be surprised if ownership had something like that in mind.
