Offseason seems likelier, but I can still see some clubs paying a decent price for guys who are controlled several more years.

Did Jerry Dipoto do the right by keeping Mitch Hanigar instead of trading him? He was hurt last year, not a top prospect, his batting average has dipped, Mariners aren’t looking to be competitive yet, and his service clock is ticking.

His injury was a total fluke. I think the M's had legitimate interest in keeping Haniger as part of their long-term core, but the overwhelming complications from last year's freak injury have probably altered things. It's easy to say he made a mistake with the benefit of hindsight, but the Mariners' farm is already much improved. If you had a healthy Haniger right now and were pairing him with a core that has Rodriguez, Kelenic, Gilbert, White, Kirby, Sheffield, Dunn, etc. etc. -- I think people would be all the more bullish on Seattle's immediate future.
