Dunno if this is in reply to what I wrote yesterday, or if you're asking but missed that I wrote about this extensively, but here you go:

Oof -- Rays further announced now that Baz will be shut down at least four weeks.

Does Nolan Arenado opt out after this year?  He's a California native and I'm seeing both the Dodgers and Giants with a great big hole at 3B after this season.
Steve Adams
1:31
I'd be surprised, if only because Arenado has said from the moment he got there that he plans to ride the contract out. Maybe that's changed, but he's given no indication of that.

Is this the downfall of the padres again? What can preller do knowing he has limited money to work with.
Steve Adams
1:35
I'm expecting the Padres to move some money, perhaps trading Blake Snell or Dinelson Lamet -- someone with a bit of salary. Snell makes the most sense, as he has a relatively notable luxury tax hit and has underperformed, but he's still talented enough and affordable enough (for a team not smack dab up against the threshold) that there'll be interest.
1:36
Have to step out for a minute -- be right back, sorry.
1:37
Sorry -- we have a 6-month old and he was full blown melting down, haha. Seems to be under control though. Back to the chat!

Astros have no lefty reliever who isn't on the IL. Besides Chafin, who would be a rental, what other southpaw bullpen guys do you see getting traded? Would the Rangers move Brett Martin for example?
Steve Adams
1:39
I'd look to Matt Moore, not Brett Martin, as a more viable lefty reliever to be traded.

Other names to consider... Joe Mantiply (D-backs), Daniel Norris (Cubs), Richard Bleier perhaps (Marlins)
1:40
It's not a great market for lefty relievers. Could try to get Cionel Perez back from Baltimore. He's been awesome there.

1:41
What kind of return to the Brewers eventually get for Hader?
Steve Adams
1:42
I don't think this will happen until at least the offseason, but if they were to actually market him in the next three weeks, he might net the biggest return of any player with a legitimate chance of moving (Luis Castillo included).

What’s your take on JD Davis? Awesome peripherals, bad numbers, org seems ready to move on.
Steve Adams
1:44
Take is pretty much what you just said. If I were running another club I would love to get my hands on Davis and buy low. The guy has done nothing but hit in the Majors, at least until this year, but even as he's putting up pedestrian surface-level stats, the exit velos, barrels, etc. are all great. With the DH in the NL now, some team should find him, give him 500-600 ABs (mostly at DH, but some occasional work at the corners) and just see if he can take off. I really like the bat.

Reds don’t want the team to package Castillo and Moose but are the Reds be able to package Brandon Drury and Mike Moustakas to move Moose’s contract?
Steve Adams
1:45
I don't think anyone's taking on a meaningful portion of Moose's deal to get Drury for free.
For Sale
1:46
What’s Sale trade value? Sox need to trade him while he’s healthy
Steve Adams
1:47
He's owed the remainder of this year's $30MM salary plus $55MM over the next two seasons. He threw 42 innings last year and has five this year. There's no trade value there right now.

1:48
Potential moves you see the nats making? Selling hard? Any extensions?
Steve Adams
1:49
They don't have much to trade. They'll move Bell, Cruz, Cishek... Hernandez and Franco if they can find interest (though I doubt there'll be much, especially for Franco).
1:50
Could put Robles out there, but you'd be selling crazy low on him, so maybe the preference would be to try again next year (or after a big second half if he can put one together). Maybe there's slight interest in Yadiel Hernandez as a cheap, slightly above-average bat against righties, but it wouldn't be a huge return there either.
1:52
They're in a brutal spot. The farm is bad, the payroll is bogged down by a pair of undesirable contracts (Strasburg, Corbin). I get why people think they should be open to moving Soto, though if he wanted to stay through all the forthcoming mess, I'd still extend him.

Are we buying or selling at the deadline if you had to guess?
Steve Adams
1:53
I don't think they're going to sell, but as Anthony Franco explored for our Front Office subscribers yesterday, they're in a pretty brutal spot. The areas they need to upgrade have few good options on the market, payroll is already far and away a franchise-record.

I think they'll make some modest moves, and ChiSox fans are going to generally react with "THAT'S IT?" Justifiably so, perhaps. Tough season in Chicago for the Sox.

How do the injuries to Severino and Hicks affect the Yankees plans at the trade deadline?
Steve Adams
1:55
X-rays and a CT scan on Hicks -- who's hitting quite well of late -- were negative, so he might just be a couple days. Severino remains to be seen. Cashman said this morning the MRI  hadn't happened yet, so it's probably taking place this afternoon. Can't know how his injury impacts them till we know what it actually is. Regardless, they've had some downturns in performance elsewhere, and adding some more rotation depth is rarely a bad thing.

What are the Mariners to do when Haniger, Lewis come back. Where does Santana get AB's and if they bring back Kelnic that is so may OF guys. Last I checked there is only one DH. How do you juggle Haniger, Lewis, Winker, J-Rod, Santana and France and a Kelnic potential call up. Good problems to have I guess?
Steve Adams
1:58
IF all those guys come back healthy and productive, then yeah, it's a great problem to have. That's like a 95th percentile outcome, though. In all likelihood there will be other injuries or slips in performance, etc.

Just keep Rodriguez, France and Haniger in the lineup everyday (health permitting), rotate the others through LF/DH. Winker shouldn't play against lefties anyhow, and who knows how long Santana will keep hitting? He's been good for the past five weeks or so, but he was terrible from Opening Day 2021 through the end of May prior to that.

Volpe and Dominguez or I tell the Yankees to pound sand!
Steve Adams
2:00
The Yankees would be the ones telling the Reds to pound sand if Cincinnati GM Nick Krall asked for Anthony Volpe and Jasson Dominguez in return for Castillo.
If that's your expectation for the Reds' return on Castillo, it's very likely you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

Would the M’s consider trading Kelnic to upgrade this year?
Steve Adams
2:03
I have a hard time seeing it unless they were acquiring someone with multiple years of control remaining beyond 2022. Kelenic has struggled in the Majors, but he's still quite young and has been hitting in AAA (.291/.352/.593. 11 HR, 16 2B, 3 3B, 3 SB)

How severely do you think Benintendi's (and others without vax) trade market will be depressed? Might have to face Toronto in the playoffs...
Steve Adams
2:04
I doubt it'll matter much at all to NL teams, and I'm sure there are AL teams that won't take the hardline stance the Yankees appear to be taking. It hurts, obviously -- they'd be better off having the Yankees and Jays in the bidding -- but it's not like they're going to have to settle for a PTBNL

With Bryan Reynolds being shut down for the next week or so, do you think the trade rumors die down?
Steve Adams
2:05
I never found Reynolds likely to be traded anyhow, as we've written here multiple times. Rumors will probably still persist, because teams will keep inquiring, but I doubt he goes anywhere

Who says no for a Nationals/Guardians trade:  Keibert Ruiz and Roismar Quintana to the Guardians for Peyton Battenfield, Jose Tena, and the 37th overall pick in Sunday's draft?
Steve Adams
2:06
I'm sure the Nats wouldn't trade Ruiz at this point, but I'd kind of love to see them buck conventional wisdom, recognize what a terrible spot they're in, and see what kind of packages they could get for Ruiz and Josiah Gray while both have five years of club control remaining, ha.
