Chat with MLBTR's Steve Adams: 7/2/24

What about a trade of like.... Emerson Hancock or Bryan Woo for Sal Frelick?
Steve Adams
2:10
I don't agree with listing Woo and Hancock as comparable assets. Woo is just better and has far more trade value. I also don't know that Frelick is going to qualify as the big lineup boost that the Mariners are seeking.

Exactly four weeks from today is the trade deadline.  Would MLBTR live-chat it?
Steve Adams
2:11
There won't be a chat that day most likely, just because the entire staff (more or less) will be online in an all-hands-on-deck situation to navigate the litany of trades, rumors, etc.
I'll probably do one the day after though

If the Rangers don't get on a roll and turn things around, what moves could they make, and who could be on the outs?
Steve Adams
2:13
Yeah, I don't think the front office is going to be so stubborn that if they're 11 games out of the Wild Card chase, they're going to dig their heels in and say "NO! We can do this!"

Short-term starters like Heaney, Eovaldi, Scherzer and Mahle strike me as clear candidates to be shopped in that setting. Lots of relievers could go. Robertson would be one of the more asked-about names. Plus Leclerc, Yates .... Urena to a lesser extent

do you think the Angels improved play will make them less likely to trade Ward, Rengifo. canning and Anderson?
Steve Adams
2:14
It shouldn't. They're 9.5 back in the division and the Wild Card

I have a log jam at 3B. Manny Machado of the Padres, Mark Vientos of the Mets, Jeff Burger of the Marlins and Noelvi Marti of the Reds. I like it that Burger is also eligible at 1B, but is he the obvious player to drop here?
Steve Adams
2:14
Burger is the easy one to drop from that quartet, for  me.

Did you see reports that the Brewers may look to upgrade internally rather than through trades this year? Seems insane with that rotation.
Steve Adams
2:15
I saw The Athletic suggest they feel the bulk of their improvements will come from within (e.g. Devin Williams, DL Hall, etc. getting healthy), but that certainly doesn't rule out a trade for a durable arm to smooth over the back of the rotation.

Time for the jays to punt?
Steve Adams
2:16
I think they'll end up selling, yes, but they're going to wait until at least after the All-Star break to see if they can stage a late run.
2:18
Ok, I've got to wrap up. Thanks for participating, as always!
