I don't think either would command a huge return, especially Grossman. There are lots of outfielders out there. Schoop seems likelier, but I think the Tigers are in a tough situation with him, to some extent. His recent hot streak has probably inflated fans' expectations for what he'd fetch in a trade. I think he'd bring back a marginal prospect or two, so trading him probably elicits a whole bunch of "That's it?!" But keeping him doesn't do much good, either, and he's probably not someone you want to extend long-term (or someone who wants to sign an extension; he just hired Scott Boras)

Will Castellanos opt out?
Steve Adams
8:12
Yeah, I expect him to.

Do you think to this point that Joey Bart is better  trade bait now or in the off season when we have a better idea of weather or not we pick up Geralds $22mil option?
Steve Adams
8:13
Bart was drafted by the old regime, and Zaidi immediately came in and selected another catcher in round 1 of the next year's draft. I'm sure Zaidi likes Bart well enough, but it was worth wondering whether this front office would move him even before Posey had his resurgence.

There is a report from the stands of the METS game that Dom Smith was taken out of the game and seen hugging other players and is no longer in the dugout. What can they get with Dom in a package?
Steve Adams
8:14
If Smith were hugging teammates and such after leaving the game, every Mets beat writer on the planet would be tweeting it. None of them are. It's a 12-3 blowout. I imagine a lot of guys will begin getting a breather.

Do you think the Yankees are gonna do anything major this trade deadline?  They wouldn't ever come out and wave the white flag but I don't think many have them going far, even if they somehow make it to the post season.
Steve Adams

I don't see the wisdom in going big on rentals. I can see more smaller-scale moves like the Clay Holmes deal, or some more-notable names -- so long as they're controlled beyond 2021.

Chances Whit Merrifield actually gets moved?
Steve Adams
8:16
Much likelier that he stays, to me. Under 20%?
Are the Yanks selling?
8:17
Will NY sell of bullpen arms like Britton or Chapman? Or even consider moving bats like Voit or Torres as deadline approaches? Shouldn’t they be selling if they can’t close ground?
Steve Adams
8:18
Even if the Yankees want to add, I can see a scenario where they try to move Britton. The demand would be sizable, moving him opens a ton of luxury room and lets them bring back other pieces. As I've said with so many other teams, there aren't many clubs that are just going to operate as a straightforward buyer/seller.
8:19
Some will, but the recent increase in teams' willingness to trade from the MLB roster, regardless of direction, is only going to continue growing, I think.

Will Cleveland retool or do a full rebuild at the trade deadline?
Steve Adams
8:20
If they were actually going to go full rebuild, they'd wait till the offseason when Bieber and Civale were healthy enough to market. I think the Indians could trade some veterans (Shaw, Cesar Hernandez), but a full rebuild doesn't seem likely.

I do wonder whether a team will try to get them to part with Zach Plesac since there are so few controllable SPs out there.

Does a Zack Davies trade get a better or worse haul than a Tyler Anderson trade?
Steve Adams
8:22
Davies costs 4x as much, salary-wise, and is having a worse year. The ERAs are comparable, but everything else about Anderson looks better (K%, BB%, hard-hit%, swinging-strike%, etc.)

Besides the two teams in Southern California, are there other teams in on Jose Berrios?
Steve Adams
8:22
There is not a contending or even quasi-contending team in baseball that has not at least asked the Twins about the price on Berrios.
Who's on 1st?
8:23
Can Gallo play 1st?
Steve Adams
8:23
Sure, but elite defense in right field is a big part of his value.
8:25
Ok, I have to duck out for the evening. Thanks for joining, everyone. Enjoy the rest of deadline week!
