There'll be changes, but sounds like more than anything else it might just be Brady Anderson stepping up into the top spot. Their lack of pitching development is troublesome, but Angelos himself is the biggest problem -- completely and inexplicably cutting off the pipeline to international amateur talent.

Where do you see Ramos going? Houston, maybe?
Steve Adams
3:32
Nationals seem like a better fit to me.
Hey yo
3:33
ANother July and another White Sox selling deadline. O/U 2.5 trades for the pale hose?
Steve Adams
3:34
I'll take the over ... even if they don't trade Abreu or Avi, they've still got Soria, Avilan, Shields to peddle... maybe one of Yolmer or Leury

Worse end of season record: KC or BAL?
Steve Adams

Who will lose more games in 2018?

Royals (17.5% | 118 votes)

Orioles (82.5% | 556 votes)

Total Votes: 674

I share the opinion of the majority here, FWIW

Scooter Gennett to the Red Sox make sense?
Steve Adams
3:37
Does make some sense, yeah. I could see the Reds also trying to extend him even though their pitching staff, or their rotation at least, is a hot mess and they're not close to contending.

What starting pitcher do the Yanks trade for?
Steve Adams
3:37
Happ or Tyson Ross get my current vote

I can't understand why the Orioles abstain from using the international bonus pool money. How ridiculous is that that they don't even come close to what is allocated to them?
Steve Adams
3:38
No one understand it. I've harped on it in the past so won't bust out the soap box here, but even Dan Duquette doesn't understand why, I'm sure. It's a Peter Angelos thing.

Saw Arenado's comments to Nightingale about losing. Any chance Rox deal him at the deadline?
Steve Adams
3:39
Can't see it this summer, but maybe they'll be forced to make that decision in the winter since he's a free agent after '19. My bet is they try to win with him in 2019 anyway, though.

Are pitching-hungry contenders willing to give ANYTHING for the promise of the last two starts by ageless Edwin Jackson?
Steve Adams
3:39
Ha. I highly doubt it. But go Edwin -- I will always root for that dude.
3:41
In one of my fantasy leagues back in the day, we had a mandatory Edwin Jackson challenge where we all had to stream EJax at least once per season (unless someone decided they wanted to hang onto him all year, which they never did). EJax roulette was fun.

But really, I love the oddball record he has, and I hope he keeps pitching well.

What would it take for the Mariners to get Duffy from KC?
Steve Adams
3:44
I don't think the Royals can realistically place a huge ask in terms of prospects unless they're also going to eat a decent part of the salary. Duffy isn't overpriced, but he's priced pretty close to market value even when he's throwing well -- which, also, he is not. Even in his recent hot streak, he's had a few clunkers and walked like 4.5 guys per nine.
Even if they ate some salary, though, KC is going to want some notable prospect capital in return -- I think he M's should look elsewhere, basically.

percentages of Iglaeis and Harvey being traded?
Steve Adams
3:45
I'll be shocked if Harvey isn't traded again.

Iglesias, eh, flip a coin. I feel like they'll hold onto him even though I think they should absolutely trade him.

At what age will Colon retire? Dude is like fine wine.
Steve Adams
3:46
NEVER
BARTOLO WILL NEVER RETIRE
Let's not even talk about that hellish eventuality. Bartolo 4ever

Are teams who are currently penalized from spending over 300k on IFA's able to trade those funds or are they simply unusable?
Steve Adams
3:46
They can trade them.
Reds just did it yesterday

3:47
Reading recent reports I'm confused as to why a team would move Iglesias to the rotation. Am I missing something?
Steve Adams
3:48
I found that a bit odd, but it makes some sense. There aren't really many high-end SPs out there, and Iglesias never got a long leash as a starter (because a lot of scouts pegged him as a RP all along).

Wouldn't be a terrible experiment to grab him, start using him in the "Opener" role and then gradually build him up to being able to go 5-6 innings, if you think his shoulder will hold up.
Soto v Acuna
3:49
Who do you like better long term?
Steve Adams
3:49
Can I just say both? Ha.

Soto's been better at a somehow younger age, so I guess I'll give him the slight nod, but they both look like stars.

Just a heads up, most of the terrible trade proposals people are bringing up (like Donaldson to Cubs) are coming from here https://www.mlb.com/news/trade-deadline-predictions-for-machado-hamels...
Steve Adams
3:52
Yikes -- just scrolled through that. The Cubs/Donaldson thing is just bonkers to me.

Generally though, that's a good thing to use as a point of emphasis here... none of that is a rumor, nor is anyone suggesting it will actually happen. I have been getting lots of questions like "is the Cubs / Donaldson rumor legit?"

It's not legit because it doesn't exist. It was one radio/tv personality making a guess (that, frankly, doesn't make much sense)

what do the cardinals do? help!!!!!!!
Steve Adams
3:54
I assume they'll be adding some bullpen parts, but man, I don't really see how they're going to keep up with the Cubs and Brewers over the rest of the season right now.

It's kind of amazing that they have so many outfield options -- most of whom are well regarded -- but their OF has struggled to this extent.
