The Meta salvage their rotation by signing Bartolo the Goat.
Steve Adams

Never mind this is very true and correct Bartolo heals all wounds
PTBNL

Your thoughts on the top three Padre starters (Paddack, Lamet, Garrett)?  Will they be enough for the sprint?
Steve Adams
3:41
It's a damn good top three, and they'll be joined by MacKenzie Gore at some point.
Jerry Dipoto
3:41
So Kyle Seager is starting strong, any chance someone will trade me a good prospect? Best fits?
Steve Adams
3:43
No one is trading for Seager based off three weeks when his contract still has the poison-pill option. As soon as he's traded, his $15MM club option becomes a player option. He's basically guaranteed $33MM for his age 33-34 seasons if he's traded. That nerfs whatever value his hot 18 games might've built up (which I don't think is all that much anyhow)

Which team will be a definite seller at TD ?
Steve Adams
3:43
The Pirates looked terrible coming into the year and have played terribly.
Nick Krall
3:44
Do you think I should pull the trigger on Lindor or should I go for a cheaper reliever to help the back end of the bullpen?
Steve Adams
3:47
First -- Nick Krall may be the Reds' GM, but Dick Williams is their president of baseball ops and has final say over roster moves.

Second, "pulling the trigger on Lindor" would mean the Indians are willing to move him, which at 10-7 I'm sure they're not willing to do. It takes two interested parties to make a deal.

The Reds will likely get some kind of 'pen help, though, yes. Lorenzen hasn't looked like himself, and they're thin behind Iglesias (who looks better in 2020), Garrett and maybe Sims, though he seems bound for regression himself.

Jake Croenworth looking a steal at this point from TB
Steve Adams
3:49
A lot of people look like steals/busts when you're basing things off 30 plate appearances. That's not to say Cronenworth will be useless or anything, but he's obviously not this good of a hitter. (He's not sustaining a .406 ISO or .360 BABIP) And Xavier Edwards is pretty highly regarded. This is peak "judging the trade way too early" -- but the early returns are exciting, I'll give you that.

Would Stroman have achieved service time to be a FA if he opted out BEFORE the season? Or did he hit some kind of number yesterday and throw in the towel without playing?
Steve Adams
3:51
He would not have been a free agent then, no. But he also didn't hit the target he needed yesterday. Stroman was 24 days shy of six years of MLB service. Under the prorated terms of the 2020 season, he needed nine days.
3:52
He got that awhile ago.
Maybe that played a role in his decision, but I'm sure his injury and his family were also considerable factors. It sucks for the Mets, but I was pretty amazed by their decision to trade for him in the first place.

Thoughts of Kelly’s Suspension in light of the one just handed down to the Astros A’s?
Steve Adams
3:55
The pure juxtaposition of Kelly and Laureano being punished more than any of the Astros' players looks awful. Manfred's office has faceplanted in so many aspects of this saga.

In the broader context of punishing someone for throwing at hitters, though, I like it. I hate the notion of hucking an upper-90s heater at someone, with intent, and that being shrugged off as "part of the game."

Pitchers struggle to control those things when they're aiming for the strike zone. Miss by a few inches and you're beaning someone in the head or neck. And for what? In most cases because a guy watched a home run too long or something? How petulant can you be? Strike the guy out and make a big fist pump and celebration to throw it right back in his face. Or go the Joe Kelly route and make the pouty face, ha.
3:56
But throwing at players on purpose is garbage, and I'd like to see it gone. So I'm all for upping the penalty for pitchers who do so.
Folty's Folly
3:56
What happened to Mike Foltynewicz?  throwing in high 80's and Braves gave up on him pretty quickly.
Steve Adams
3:57
You said it yourself. His fastball dipped six miles per hour. He lost a ton of weight -- he looked almost gaunt -- so I wonder if that contributed.

The timing of the DFA made sense though. If they'd waited another two starts even, he'd have had the service time to reject his outright assignment in favor of free agency while retaining the right to his salayr.
3:58
They had to be almost certain no one would claim his salary given the velo dip, so they knew they'd basically be free to send him down and hope he builds back up. If they'd waited, he could've said "peace," signed elsewhere, and the Braves would still be the ones paying him to try to build up with another team.
Pirates just claimed Nick Tropeano from Yankees

If your the Texas Rangers, where do you put your FA $$$ this off-season?
Steve Adams

George Springer?

Is there any word if Chris archer will pitch this year.
Steve Adams
3:59
He had TOS surgery weeks ago. It's been known that he's out for quite some time.
He won't pitch until 2021 and might be done with the Pirates entirely.
Doubt Bob Nutting is picking up an $11MM option on an injured pitcher.

How come when some teams trade for a PTBNL they never end up getting anything. Does the team just send cash or something?
Steve Adams
4:00
It's often a PTBNL *or* cash.
So yeah, cash goes back quite a bit.

Biggest surprise in this short season so far?
Steve Adams
4:02
The Rockies being 11-5 with a +27 run differential? I have no earthly idea how this is happening with that roster.
Opt outs
4:02
Any more rumors of the players who had their service time manipulated (Bryant) opting out once they get credit for a full season this year?  When would the full season mark be?
Steve Adams
4:03
It depends on when that player was called up. There's no set deadline. It's unique to how much service each of those players had entering the year.
4:04
Springer could do it. Bauer. Most players who entered the year with five-plus years will cross six years of service before season's end.
Only a few had five years on the dot and need the full season.
That's true in any given year.

Come on Steve seriously? Vargas better upside at the plate than Adrianza ? Vargas only hits in Minor League!
