Am I getting fired if the red sox don't make it to the playoff
Steve Adams
2:41
Nope

2:42
What happened to Rodon? He dominated last start!
Steve Adams
2:43
You can dominate even if you're not feeling 100%, and you can get hurt throwing bullpens, lifting, etc. between starts. He has a history of shoulder troubles, including 2017 surgery and missing most of the 2020 season. He also had Tommy John in between those injuries. Rodon's been a great story this year, but it shouldn't come as a surprise if he runs into some physical issues. Hopefully it's nothing serious.

How actively will the Rays be trying to move Glasnow this offseason? If they move him, do you expect them to get more than they received for Snell?
Steve Adams
2:45
Snell was healthy, coming off a good season and signed for three affordable years.

Glasnow won't pitch in 2022 and will be a free agent post-2023. He won't get close to a Snell return.
That said, I do think the Rays will look into trading him pretty extensively. They probably don't want to pay him $6MM+ not to pitch for them, but another club with a larger payroll will basically look at it as the equivalent of getting Glasnow at 2 years and around $12-13MM.
2:46
We've seen far lesser pitchers (Michael Pineda, Drew Smyly, Garrett Richards) sign similar deals in free agency when the teams know they're a non-factor in year one.

2:47
Do the Cubs go into next season with a middle infield of Horner and Madrigal or will they be in the market for one of the free agent shortstops?
Steve Adams
2:47
Nothing about what they've done in the past 12 months suggest to me that they're going to be active on top-end free agents. The only way I could really see it is if they just want to immediately circle back to Baez, but that doesn't feel likely.

Glasnow would be a perfect fit for the Dodgers?
Steve Adams
2:48
He's a legitimate No. 1 starter who'll earn $6-7MM to rehab in 2022 and then earn that same amount in 2023. He's a perfect fit for most hopeful contenders -- with the exception of the A's, Rays, Indians, etc.... the teams who generally try to contend with minimal payrolls.

Yankees off load Gallo or is he a keeper 2022 and beyond?
Steve Adams
2:49
He's a keeper for 2022 at least. We'll see beyond that. Asking price won't be cheap barring some huge collapse.

You think the Cardinals will be interested in Semien during the offseason?
Steve Adams

Rotation and outfield seem likelier

Is Jeff Todd still part of MLBTR?
Steve Adams
2:52
Jeff bought a small business in his hometown and left to pursue that venture, which was a huge bummer on the one hand because he's an immensely wonderful person and a good friend. On the other hand, I'm quite happy for him and his family to have that kind of opportunity and I know he was excited for it. He's still missed here.

No chance Kenley Jansen is closing in the playoffs right?
Steve Adams
2:53
The short answer is: who knows? Relievers are crazy volatile. Entering the year we were talking about how the Cubs could escape the Kimbrel contract, and he's now a bargain who netted them Nick Madrigal.

With a lot of pitchers saying how hard it is to grip the ball, what do you think about MLB-approved pitching gloves?
Steve Adams
2:54
I'd rather just see them adopt the pre-tacked ball they used in the Olympics. Joe Ryan and Scott Kazmir effused praise for the ball. Some of the hitters even said they preferred to hit with it since it was easier for them to see.

They are grooming Tatis Jr for outfield, what's your take on that move?
Steve Adams
2:57
Seems like they're just considering all their options in the short-term while his shoulder mends. It makes sense. Adalberto Mondesi was in this exact same situation two years ago, and they tried to tell him "don't dive for the ball" at shortstop. That didn't work once instinct and competitiveness took over, though, as he unsurprisingly laid out for one and re-aggravated the shoulder injury.

I don't know how much we'll see Tatis play in the outfield, if at all, but it's sensible to explore it.

I can see the Cards seeking rotation help, but what sort of OF are you thinking makes sense for them?
Steve Adams
3:00
Someone who can play all three spots and give them more depth in the event of injury or regression from one of O'Neill/Bader/Carlson. The Nootbaar/Williams/Dean grouping hasn't exactly been that.

They could certainly look into shortstop, too, but with those huge commitments to Goldy and Arenado already in place, I don't think they're going to sign another $100MM+ deal.
Carlos Rodon
3:02
Given my injury history and this new injury, what size contract can I get this offseason?
Steve Adams
3:04
No way to know that until we know the extent of the injury and how long he's out. If it's actually just fatigue and he's back in two weeks, I wouldn't call a lucrative five-year deal out of the question. If it's fatigue and he misses six weeks, that's much different. If what was announced as fatigue leads to imaging and he's found to have a tear or something, he's back at one or two years on a make-good deal. We can't know right now.

Bigger surprise this year: Giants or Twins?
Steve Adams
3:04
Twins faceplanting was more surprising to me than Giants being awesome.
Still a Giants fan
3:04
Do you think Bryant's 2 months in orange and black will kind of be a sales pitch? Do you think the Giants make a legit offer to keep him once he hits free agency?
Steve Adams
3:05
They have the money to, and he wouldn't be the first rental to sign on long-term with the team that acquired him at the deadline prior to free agency. But the determining factor in the end is just going to be who makes the best contract offer.

How come I chose to disrupt my clubhouse and kill October dreams for my team all for Toro? Couldn't I have held on to my closer and just traded for a different 2B? Am I rightly or wrongly being lambasted by this move since I also got Castillo and Anderson?
Steve Adams
3:09
Two months of Kendall Graveman for five years of Abraham Toro is a trade I make all day every day. I said as much minutes after the trade and believe it still.

I'm sure the clubhouse was upset by the move, but the notion that this losing streak is a direct result of that trade isn't one I can get behind whatsoever; especially when Toro is hitting .354/.436/.625 in 13 games with Seattle.
3:10
I'm still surprised the Astros made that deal, honestly, and think it's a home run for the Mariners in the long term. They were a fringe 2021 contender anyhow -- a fun one, but still a fringe one. And I think the current iteration of the roster is better than the one that preceded the trade.
Giants Pitchers
3:11
Do the Giants make an effort to resign Gausman and Disco in offseason or do they go after bigger fish?
Steve Adams
3:12
Gausman at this point might be the biggest fish on the pitching market -- at least in terms of total earning power. You can say Scherzer is the better pitcher and I won't disagree, but he's 37. Gausman will get the larger contract.

The Red Sox look lifeless.
