Steve Adams

Meant to say "Doubt he made it past the Mariners" and then say Rangers or Mariners are my guess. You get the point, ha.

Ever answer questions on Seattle??
Atlanta Braves
3:51
Why do you hate us?
Steve Adams
3:51
All my biases are being revealed!
3:52
I have nothing against the Braves and have not gotten a lot of Mariners questions, though. Sorry folks.
Adam
3:52
Should the tigers prioritize getting rid of salary or acquiring prospects? Especially Upton walks they have very little long term MLB talent in starting positions
Steve Adams
3:53
I don't think they're all that interested in shedding salary just to shed it. Their focus, rightfully, is on improving the farm *and* paring back payroll, in conjunction, in order to build a more sustainable long-term contender. They're not going to let Verlander or Kinsler go just to clear dollars. Someone like Anibal or Zimmermann, sure they would, but no one's going to go near those two right now (especially not JZ)

3:54
Chances Phillies go after and land Yu Darvish? Do they have a good enough long term outlook for FAs to bite?
Steve Adams
3:55
Not without dramatically overpaying, I don't think, no. Doesn't help that they play in somewhat of a launching pad. They'll have a hard time luring big-name pitchers this winter, though. Corner outfielders might be easier, since there's lesser demand there.
Toronto Blue Jays
3:55
We have revoked Marco Estrada's waiver claim he still will be a Blue Jay.
Steve Adams
3:56
If the claiming team is only interested in taking on the contract, yeah that'll happen. If they're willing to give up some minor league talent, I think he's likely to go.
Mr. Girsch
3:56
Being as relatively flush with money as we are, what do you see as being my first 'big' FA signing for the RedBirds?
Steve Adams
3:57
Mozeliak is still the president of baseball operations. Girsch's "promotion" was basically an improved title, but as far as I know he's not calling the shots when it comes to roster additions or anything.
NL roty
3:57
do any of the rockies starters have a realistic chance at winning NL ROTY?
Steve Adams
3:57
Cody Bellinger could probably get abducted by aliens, miss the rest of the season, and still win NL ROY
Unless the aliens wiped all of our memories
3:58
Actually Cody Bellinger might BE an alien. That would explain a lot. No one should be that good at 21.
"21." He's an alien. I'm becoming more convinced by the second.
Simba
3:58
Why is no one making a big deal about the season I am having?!
Steve Adams
3:59
Probably because he doesn't have gaudy power numbers and he's been more of a "really good" hitter than a "holy crap he's great" hitter. And we expect the defense on a yearly basis, so it seems routine.

But yes, Simmons has had a monster season and probably deserves more love than he's gotten. He's probably the #2 reason that the Angels are where they are in 2017.
Go Sox '05

Could 7/238 bring Arenado to the South Side of Chicago?
Steve Adams
4:01
I honestly don't even think that's enough to extend him right now. He's going to make $17.75MM next season and probably $23-24MM or so in his final arb year, then hit free agency as a 28-year-old. At that point, he's seeking 10+ years and $300MM+
Travis
4:02
Trout has to be a pretty serious contender for AL MVP, even with the DL stint right?
Steve Adams
4:02
Yeah, but I think it was long enough to potentially keep him from winning it with the year Altuve is having (and if Judge can rebound and finish strong).
Drew
4:03
Could you see the Braves making a run at Yu Darvish? What type of contract do you see him getting?
Steve Adams
4:03
Making a run, sure, but they'd probably have to approach Strasburg territory (7/175), which might be too steep for their liking.
Brendon
4:04
Do you or others at MLBTR have sources in the game that you could break news from?  Or does MLBTR prefer to be a compiling location for those that report transactional information?
Steve Adams
4:05
It's not a huge priority for us, but we do talk to agents, teams, etc. and we do report the occasional transaction before the national guys get wind of it. I don't want to sit here and rattle off the things we've reported, ha, but we do break the occasional trade, signing, extension, etc.
Alien Man
4:06
I mean, Ken Griffey jr. was that good at 21... so a lot of mlb players are aliens. Trust me.
Steve Adams
4:06
Could be on to something.

4:06
As Justin Upton continues to mash, does it seem more likely he opts out? Will he get a similar contract to what he has now or would he he another year or more money?
Steve Adams
4:07
I think it's more plausible than a lot of reporters seem to. He's been one of the 5-10 best hitters on the planet for the past calendar year and has absolutely raked dating back to July 1, 2016. He basically had three terrible months to open his Tigers career and has been great since.
4:08
Yoenis Cespedes got 4/110 last winter, and he was a year older than Upton will be this winter. Hanley Ramirez got 4/88 when he was older and moving to LF with zero experience.
4:09
Upton has 4/88.5 left on his deal and a 145ish wRC+ over the past 365 days. And he's an average or better left fielder that can't receive a QO. I think he has a very real chance of beating $88MM on the open market, and he may also have the opportunity to move to a more clear contender.
Smith
4:10
Does the Rockies bullpen have enough to sustain a successful playoff drive?
Steve Adams
4:11
If the Rox hang on to make the postseason, I don't think they have the pitching to compete with the Dodgers or Nats. Lots of exciting young arms there, but they're not all finished products yet.
4:12
