What would the Nats have to package together to nab a JD Martinez/Brandon Workman combo?
Steve Adams
2:57
I'd imagine the Red Sox are looking high and low for arms, but the Nats' farm isn't a great one. Other clubs could put together something more appealing most likely.

Do I get to see Sixto, Jesus and Bleday this year? Tubbs says only 2 of them
Steve Adams
2:58
I can't imagine they'd call up Bleday already
Sixto, I could see in Miami perhaps
Marlins just tweeted "Today's Roster Update:" with an attached image. I am going to laugh myself silly if J.J. Bleday is on there.
Let's see

Nope! But Brett Eibner and Brandon Leibrandt are. Hooray for scouring the indie circuit!
(Hope both guys do good things though -- both good stories)

Is there any chance Puig signs with Tigers ?
Steve Adams
3:00
If it were gonna happen, I think it'd have happened by now.

I guess Harper has lead his teams in his past, but I like winning teams.  Washington got out of the gutter once Harper left.
Steve Adams
3:02
By that logic you'd take someone like Jeremy Affeldt over Mike Trout? One player doesn't drive a World Series alone in a sport with 24 others on his team (25 in recent seasons)

more likely to sneak into the playoffs: orioles, tigers, or marlins?
Steve Adams
3:03
Likelier to sneak into playoffs in this insane season?

Any chance you see us being in the Realmuto market this offseason if the Phillies let him reach free agency? Sanchez has looked awful again this year even though he has 2 years of affordable team control remaining.
Steve Adams
3:05
I'm sure if JTR gets to market, the Yankees will be linked to him, yeah. They gauge the market of every top player and always hover on the periphery even if they're not heavily involved.

If Puig remain unsigned for the whole 2020, what would his market in the incoming offseason like? 1-yr deal or even minor league signing?
Steve Adams
3:07
We pegged him at just one year and $8MM at the beginning of last winter. He'd be less than that now. It's been awhile since Puig was particularly great... he's an above-average, but not-elite hitter in the outfield corners. That skill set just doesn't get paid that much. If he'd been willing to take a Corey Dickerson deal or something (2/17), I bet he'd have found it. But it sounds like he wanted longer deals at a higher annual rate, and I never found that remotely likely (nor did the rest of the staff at MLBTR when we were formulating our contract predictions)

Would a benintendi for plesac trade make sense?
Steve Adams
3:10
It depends first on Benintendi's health and second on which Plesac you believe is real. The guy who pitched 115 IP with about a 5.00 FIP / SIERA last season and 6.8 K/9 vs. 3.1 BB/9 looked like a fifth starter or a swing man.

The guy who posted a 24-to-2 K/BB ratio in 21 IP this year with heavier usage of his curveball/slider/changeup -- with a mammoth uptick in SwStr% as a result -- looked like a much better pitcher. But that was 21 IP
3:11
If the Red Sox believe in this year's Plesac -- or at least a version closer to this than to his 2019 form -- sure you do it. If you think he's more 2019, then he's frankly not *that* interesting.
AL West

Who you got winning this division?
Steve Adams
3:12
I'm not betting against Oakland at this point.

I'm scared . The Mets just added three top prospects to their player pool.  Given the timing I am so afraid BVW will make a Hail Mary trade in a last ditch effort to save his job.  If they were added for developmental purposes why not earlier in the season?
Steve Adams
3:15
I think there's reason to be concerned with that, sure. You could also look at it the other way, though, and say early on they wanted MLB-caliber depth since they were planning on contending. Adding prospects like Mauricio who won't be called up could be a sign they're shifting more to a developmental approach.

....But it's the Wilpons' final year of ownership most likely, so I'm fully ready for them to do something completely bananas that mortgages the future and doesn't move the needle for 2020 like they hope.

Why are the Padres not bringing up Gore?
Steve Adams
3:17
We're out of Super Two territory at this point, so it wouldn't surprise me if he were up soon. That said, the Padres haven't been shy about bringing their elite prospects up and saying "Service time be damned," (hello Fernando Tatis and Chris Paddack), so maybe they genuinely feel Gore has a few tweaks he still needs to make.
Mets just put David Peterson on the IL with shoulder fatigue.
Jeez.
First Half Surprise
3:18
Who you got as most surprising team and player in first half of season?
Steve Adams
3:20
Rockies and Yaz. I thought the Rockies would easily bottom out in the NL West. And I didn't think Yastrzemski could maintain last year's output at all. He's playing over his head right now, but I'm on board with him being a 125 to 130ish wRC+ guy

If the Gs add big money to Cueto, would the Braves give a top prospect?
Steve Adams
3:21
He's not even pitching well. They'd have to pay the bulk of the freight just to get someone to provide minimal salary relief.
Dodger fan
3:22
I don't understand why Dodger fans who post on social media put such a high value on Joc Pederson?  They make him out to be elite, but I think he's barely above average.  Am I wrong?
Steve Adams
3:23
He's a limited player but very good within those limits. Don't play him against much LHP, keep him in a corner as opposed to CF, and you've got a nice piece. He's out to a miserable start this year, sure, but there's a much larger sample that says he's a good corner defender who can absolutely clobber RHP.
Wil Myers hit a grand slam against the Rangers!
Let's see if Chris Woodward is angry that he swung 2-2.
Boston Dead Sox
3:23
Is Springer to Boston next season anything with legs? What do you envision the Sox starting OF being next year? Could it be Verdugo, Benintendi and Durran? Do they keep Pillar? Who else is on the radar?
Steve Adams
3:25
I haven't seen anything about that and don't like the idea of projecting the Red Sox to make that type of FA splurge. They just kneecapped themselves in 2020 to escape a tiny luxury hit, and they brought in a high-ranking Rays exec seemingly in hopes of mimicking the Dodgers' success in maintaining flexible payrolls. Springer doesn't mesh with that.
