I have no earthly idea, to answer the first part of your question. It was odd to me they even gave up a couple PTBNLs to get him, and borderline crazy that they didn't add a legitimate rotation piece.

They'll be on short-term upgrades this winter. At this point, it seems clear that Anthopoulos is not keen on giving out lucrative multi-year deals and instead prefers higher-AAV one-year pacts. That could put them in position to chase Bauer or to buy low on a rebound candidate (Odorizzi?)
I do wonder about Stroman and whether he'll be an exception. Anthopoulos has brought Donaldson and Bautista to Atlanta already.

They've tried to move him regularly for the past two years -- I assume we'll see that again, yes.
