what does my next contract look like? 1 year pillow deal at $5 million?
Steve Adams
2:32
Someone will pay more than $5MM if Bellinger is non-tendered and looks to max out on a one-year deal, but yeah I do think a non-tender and one-year deal somewhere is likely. More in the $10MM range with a bunch of incentives though.

What happens to Paul Dejong? Does he stay in STL or get traded in a Leake type deal where the club eats most of his salary for a fringe prospect?
Steve Adams
2:36
I was on board with DeJong as a rebound candidate this season and thought he'd be traded to a team that couldn't afford one of the big-name FAs. When the Cards held him, it seemed sensible enough to me, but everything has backed up even further this year. At this point, I don't see how they can go into 2023 with him in the plans, so yeah either a trade or even just a DFA/release seems plausible. He's going into the final guaranteed year of the contract next season, and teams are generally more willing to move on when they're just one year to go on a deal.

Will Muncy hit free agency?

Spin rates are through the roof??  With who?  Give an example of a single pitcher you know that spin rates are through the roof.  I think you are talking out of your ass.  But what am I saying, you wont select this question because you have no answer.

2:38
do you like or hate the 2023 rule changes?
Steve Adams
2:39
I generally think we won't notice the pitch clock much, though I dislike the subsequent (and necessary) trickle-down effect that is the limitation on pickoff attempts (since stepping off the rubber would reset the clock).

Bigger bases, fine by me.

I don't like limiting defensive positioning.
2:40
I also wonder how often we'll just see the infielders line up in their proper positions and then see the left fielder come play in the shallow grass on the right side of the infield. Good time to be a Josh Harrison type of infielder/outfielder if that becomes the norm.

what does a Nimmo FA deal look like?
Steve Adams
2:40
Higher than most people expect -- $80MMish? There are people on the MLBTR staff who think he'll push nine figures. (Anthony Franco is a big Nimmo guy)

2:41
Would you say the top FA SS are in the order of Turner, Dansby, Xander, Correa. Or would you have a different order?
Steve Adams
2:42
Depends how you're ranking them. In terms of overall talent?  In terms of 2023 impact? In terms of largest contract/earning power?

We do our Free Agent Power Rankings and Top 50 Free Agent Predictions based on earning power and total predicted contract. In that sense, I go Turner, Correa, Bogaerts, Swanson.

Do you expect the Dodgers to do EVERYTHING possible to keep Trea Turner from other clubs this offseason or will the Dodgers payroll have a limit?
Steve Adams
2:45
The Dodgers in general have shown that they don't beat the field to get a player they want at all costs. Perhaps you can say the Betts deal is an exception to that, but with regard to free agency, they've let plenty of guys go once the bidding reaches a certain point
NL ROY?

I get Strider has been great.. but the braves really took off when Harris was called up.. and he's mashing every day.. and playing great defense. what say you?
Steve Adams
2:47
I'm team Strider, but if Harris wins it, that's totally defensible. I like the guy who's been up longer and don't think the context of team performance should matter. It's an individual award.

2:48
I agree with you about the Dodgers tendency to let players walk if the bidding gets too high. I think that overall it has benefited them. Do you agree?
Steve Adams
2:48
It's hard to fault much with how they've operated, given the success the team has had.

Chances Verlander and Framber finish 1 and 2 in Cy Young voting?
Steve Adams
2:48
I don't think Framber will get the runner-up nod -- Cease, Manoah, McClanahan are all probably ahead of him -- but Valdez's season doesn't get nearly the attention it deserves. He's been incredible.

Trea Turner wants to return east. I’m thinking Phillies are the team to sign him.
Steve Adams
2:50
Again, Turner literally said yesterday that he is open to signing everywhere and that the "east coast" preference thing isn't real. Maybe he'll still end up signing with the Phillies, because they're a totally plausible fit, but there's no sense ruling out the Dodgers or anyone else based on geography alone.

Can you see a realistic scenario where the Twins and Correa work out a long-term extension?
Steve Adams
2:51
I can. I don't think the $345-350MM Correa hoped for is going to be there. Both sides seem happy. If the Twins will do some kind of eight-year deal at a premium AAV -- basically lock in the next two seasons at their $70.2MM then tack on six more years, probably at a lesser rate -- it doesn't strike me as too outlandish.
2:52
I still think it's likelier that he opts out and hits the market, to be clear, but the Twins can certainly pay him long-term without hamstringing their payroll or anything.

Game 7 World Series, bases loaded two outs, you're up by one - who's your closer?
Steve Adams
2:53
Among current relievers? Edwin Diaz. But if I can dial up like 1998 Mariano Rivera...

The last top of the rotation pitcher the Rangers developed and had success with was CJ Wilson.  Bad luck or a bad organization?
Steve Adams
2:55
The player development struggles in the Rangers organization in recent years span way beyond pitching. Joe Barlow is the only Rangers draftee in the past five or six years to amass even one WAR in his career so far.

So, in your mind, cheating is acceptable? Mays, Aaron and others must love hearing that!!

Willie Mays has said Barry Bonds should be in the Hall of Fame.

Will there be a 100 SB guy ever again?
Steve Adams
2:57
I lean no, but let's see how much the larger bases and limited pickoff attempts push things forward next year.

Everyone knew players were taking roids in the 90s. Why people act so offended by it seems hypocritical.
Steve Adams
3:00
Meh, people are passionate about it. I get it. I used to get real fired up about it myself and was a "NEVER" guy for steroid users in the Hall of Fame. As I've continued to see all the outrage over Hall voting, Awards voting, etc. -- I've come to ask myself, "There is so, so much in life worth getting worked up over. Is this really it?" And my answer is... well, no.

I also cannot reconcile how a supposed museum to history would omit names like Bonds, Clemens, etc. If you want to put them in a separate wing or something, or note on their plaque that they're a PED user, fine by me. But they're part of the game's history.
3:01
It's why I don't really engage and hurl insults even if people get upset with m for being open to PED users in the Hall. You're not cool with it? Great. I get it. I just don't subscribe to the same point of view. I'm good with that.
