Do you have a Freddie Freeman prediction as far as team and contract? Thanks!
Steve Adams
2:53
$135-140MM over five years.

The Phillies already have the fifth-highest payroll in MLB, have handed out big contracts to Wheeler and Realmuto, and the farm system is bleak. How do they build around Harper while he’s still in his prime? Is there another Ohtani out there? One who prefers the east coast?
Steve Adams
2:58
The core of a good Phillies team is largely in place. They desperately need to improve their defense, which doesn't get enough blame. I'd look for ways to swap out Gregorius for a shortstop with a better glove -- money lines up reasonably well with DeJong in STL and Ahmed in Arizona, can add minor league pieces around the edges -- and take a serious look at adding a premium defender at third base as well.

The Phillies are going to have Wheeler, Nola, Gibson and (hopefully after not too long) Eflin in place next year. That is a rotation that can to to the playoffs. Harper, Hoskins, Realmuto and Segura is a good start to the lineup.
2:59
They "only" have $142MM on the books, and their only arb raises of note are Hoskins and Eflin. This is a team comfortable going to $200MM+ in payroll, especially now that they reset their tax bill. It's doable, I think.
QOnforto
2:59
If Conforto accepts a QO should the Mets pursue outfield upgrades?
Steve Adams
2:59
I don't think he'll accept.

Braves resign Duvall and Rosario (DH) and let Soler and Peterson walk. Make any sense?
Steve Adams
3:01
Rosario has been great in ATL, but it's a pretty tiny sample. He is a notoriously streaky hitter, so while I get that fans are probably in love with him right now, if this were realistically representative of his skill set, he wouldn't have gone unclaimed on waivers, been non-tendered and had to sign for a one-year deal worth less than his projected arb salary.
Suffice it to say: I'd be wary of paying up for Eddie.

Do you think the Brewers could win?
Steve Adams
3:02
With that rotation and Hader/Williams at the back? Absoluteluy.
Absolutely, even.

I have a feeling the Reds will be cutting payroll this offseason. Castellanos with opt out, Miley will be bought out. But I can see Moustakas being traded with Senzel. Is that a possibility or could Miley’s option be picked up and Moustakas being traded with Castillo a bigger possibility?
Steve Adams
3:05
I don't see how they could justifiably buy Miley out. He's a net $9MM decision. Even if the Reds were hell-bent on cutting cost, you could trade Miley at that price point. He's been great for them this season and, in general, has been pretty dang good on the whole over the past four seasons:

3.53 ERA, 18.0 K%, 8.1 BB%, 50.2 GB%, 425 1/3 IP
His market value would easily exceed $10MM on a one-year deal, meaning someone would give up something of value for him.

PTBNL for Danny Duffy hasn't been announced. Can the Royals wait until after the rule 5 to pick the player? I heard they had a list of names agreed upon and the Royals were given time to scout them.
Steve Adams
3:09
They have six months from the point at which the trade is agreed upon, so yeah, they can wait until after the Rule 5
Cubs announced Dillon Maples, who was DFA'ed yesterday, cleared waivers and stayed in the organization.

What do you see the Mariners doing this off-season? Any likelihood they could be a dark horse candidate for bigger ticket guys like Scherzer and Bryant?
Steve Adams
3:12
I do think they'll be active in free agency. They'll be a tougher sell for a short-term veteran like Scherzer who is going to want to go to a clear division favorite. Someone like Bryant will be more amenable to going to the highest bidder, but still not sure that'll be the Mariners.

Dipoto has said in the past free agency is a way to supplement a core but not to build one. He's built one the way that he likes, so we'll see the extent to which he and ownership are willing to spend, I suppose.

I think it's likelier you see more middle-tier free agents than that they sign a Carlos Correa or one of the very top-tier names.
3:13
Bear in mind, of course, that there are some "middle" tier free agents this winter who'll still land large eight-figure or even nine-figure deals. We haven't seen a group this deep in awhile.
Mariner
3:13
What do you think of the Mariner's signing Chris Taylor. He is the ideal super utility guy.
Steve Adams
3:14
Yeah, it's a good fit and a sort of full-circle signing for them to bring him back.
Buck Showalter
3:14
One last Manager Rodeo for Buck? Any ideas on what teams would be best fit? NYM, SDP NYY maybe
Steve Adams
3:15
Mets, Padres both seem like they'll be going for a more established type of voice. (Again, assuming Tingler is out) Depends whether he even wants to come back.
Alex Anthopoulus

I get Freeman has said that he wants to be a brave for life, but would he really walk away from an offer of 6/180 in free agency, knowing that the Braves don´t pay top dollar for free agents and there are some heavy pocket teams in need of a first baseman.
Steve Adams
3:16
If someone offers him 6/180 and the Braves won't come close to matching it, sure, he'd probably leave. I still think Atlanta will just do what it takes to sign him, though.

Any idea when we can expect the big annual Top 50 FA with Predictions article?
Steve Adams

We usually publish it after the World Series ends.

I know there's been speculation the Cardinals could be linked to Story in free agency but I feel that Seager would be a much better fit due to the lineup lacking a left handed hitting threat. Do you think the Cardinals and Seager could be a match?
Steve Adams
3:19
With Arenado and Goldy already on the books, I'd be skeptical of them genuinely pursuing him. Rotation is a bigger need, for me. We also just haven't seen the Cardinals win the bidding on that type of free agent in the past.

What starting pitcher do you like for the Braves to pick up this off-season?
Steve Adams
3:22
They already re-signed Morton. They'll have him, Fried, Anderson, Ynoa, Soroka (hopefully)... I don't know that they'll go huge in the rotation. Wouldn't hurt them to sign some veteran innings (Tyler Anderson, Michael Pineda, etc.) but that doesn't top the list for me.

If they do go heavy on a starter, I'll point out the obligatory Anthopoulos/Stroman connection, I suppose.

Angels are gonna sign one of the big shortstop and a veteran pitcher they like all these young arms what do you think?
Steve Adams
3:24
Yeah, they'll be in on the top names both in the rotation market and the shortstop market. I don't know if the fanbase can take another year of "We need pitching" followed by loading up on bats, so hopefully the rotation is the bigger point of emphasis.

It's such a deep class that I do like their chances of signing someone notable. They also line up real nicely with the Marlins, who want some controllable outfield help (ideally CF) and have a bunch of interesting, controllable arms to offer in return

Is there any position player on the Rangers that can be penciled into next year’s lineup? Seems like they can upgrade anywhere pretty easily.
Steve Adams
3:26
Adolis Garcia is going to be in the outfield, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa will play a non-1B infield spot. But to your point, yeah, they can cast a pretty wide net because they don't have a lot of solidified answers -- and the guys that have solidified themselves can play a few different spots.
