Anthony Gose made his return to the ML's last night w/ Cleveland.. If this is more common than we think, who would you suggest having the same kind of talent that can be developed (in the pitching factory in Cleveland?) into a pitching weapon?..
Steve Adams
3:27
It's not at all common, which is what makes it awesome. That was so fun to see.

best to tear it down?
Steve Adams

Lot of payroll flexibility, several young arms near the cusp of the Majors (Ryan, Balazovic, Duran, Strotman, Winder), still have plenty of solid young bats to build around. The injuries hurt them all over this year. Kirilloff didn't get a full healthy season. Duran missed most of the year. Maeda out for 2022. But the division isn't really stacked, they can spend and already have a solid farm, and their owner has said he has no intention of rebuilding.

Who’s for real -   Brian De La Cruz, Chas McCormick, Jake Myers, or Jose Siri?
Steve Adams
3:29
Of that bunch, give me Meyers.

Any realistic chance the Mets land Buxton?
Steve Adams
3:31
I don't really envision him being traded, and the Mets don't line up especially great even if the Twins do move him, as I imagine they'll just want to add more young, controllable-but-MLB-ready arms, which isn't a huge area of strength for the Mets.

Will the BoSox sign me ? 5/40mil sound about right ?
Steve Adams
3:32
Sounds far too light both in terms of total guarantee and annual value. Rodriguez is going to be paid more than most people expect this winter.

when does their window close?
Steve Adams
3:34
I thought it they were headed for a transition period, but they've hit big on prospects who weren't all that well regarded: Framber Valdez, Cristian Javier, Luis Garcia, Jake Meyers ... it's a testament to their development team. They look like they're in a nice position for awhile in Houston.

For two days I haven't been able to view MLBTR on my Windows 10 desktop (Chrome browser), but every other site comes up fine.
Steve Adams
3:35
That's odd. Are you able to fill out the contact form on our site (perhaps via your phone if it still won't load on desktop) and submit some more details? We had a hosting issue that was quickly resolved earlier this week, so perhaps it relates to that. I can pass the issue on to one of our developers

Giants are in an interesting spot -- a dominant regular season this year, but a rather large load of free agents following the WS. Will they fish for another reclamation? Bundy seems like an ideal candidate..
Steve Adams
3:36
I'm sure they'll look for some bargain reclamations, because they've proven to be good at finding those types. But the expectations in SF have been raised, as well, and their offseason approach will adjust accordingly. They'll be in on some of the top-tier free agents even as they simultaneously look for a diamond in the rough or wo.

Whats that?

Conforto has been a shadow of his possible self this year, I think he would be a fool to pass on the QO. Considering he wanted a Springer like contract last off season, I can't see any team dumb enough to give him that after this years performance.
Steve Adams

What's the downside of him rejecting? He finds a tepid market and maybe signs for $10-12MM? So he lost out on $7MM. That's a lot, obviously -- especially for us -- but he has $30MMish in career earnings, including his draft bonus, and he could obviously still position himself for a big payday on that one-year deal.

Meanwhile, if he rejects, maybe a few teams look past the slow start to see a guy with a pretty decent finish and a batted-ball profile that looks really similar to peak Conforto. The upshot there is a heck of a lot more than $7MM.

What are the odds the White Sox don't pick up Kimbrel's option for next year? He's been awful and that's a hefty price tag that could be used to grab another starter.
Steve Adams
3:42
He's been homer-prone, yeah, but I don't think they give up Madrigal and then buy out the option just a few months later. Kimbrel is still missing bats... it's largely a home run issue. If he keeps getting rocked and loses their trust in the postseason, maybe the calculus changes. I don't think they'd buy it out right now if forced to make the decision today.

Does Lorenzen get a shot to start on 2022?
Steve Adams
3:43
He's sounded like he wants that opportunity in the past. I bet some team would sign him and write in some incentives based on both games started and games finished (or jsut total relief appearances)

What would the White Sox have to give up to get Cedric Mullins this off season?
Steve Adams
3:46
It's a really bleak farm system for the ChiSox right now. Part of that is because all the guys who made it so strong are now in the Majors (which is why the Sox are so good), but I don't know how they can put together the best offer if the Orioles get serious about moving Mullins (which I don't think is any kind of given).

I guess you could start with Kopech and add around him, but Kopech and Mullins have the same amount of team control remaining. It's not a great fit in terms of trade partners.

Who's your pick for the next POBO of the Mets? Feels like the rumor winds are pointing to Beane
Steve Adams
3:50
Sure, but a week before that they were pointing to Theo, and a week from now they'll be pointing to someone else. It seems to be how the Mets operate.

Could it be Beane? I suppose. Could also be Jon Daniels, Theo Epstein or some name-recognition exec we're not really even thinking about or considering. The Mets don't know the answer to that question yet, so I definitely don't either.

But if we're just throwing darts at the wall, I chose Daniels when Anthony Franco, Tim Dierkes and I all put each other on the spot and made way-too-early and completely speculative guesses about three weeks ago over email.

Re: Lorenzen - is he the kinda guy the Rangers give a shot on a 3-year deal a la Mike Minor?
Steve Adams
3:50
I could see someone signing him to a cheap-ish multi-year deal, and Texas likes to do  that sort of thing. Not an unreasonable guess there.
Paul DeJong
3:51
Any chance he could be moved to make space for a big SS signing (Story, Seager, Correa, Baez type)? I know you expect the Cards to spend money on pitching, but SS is an obvious place for an offensive improvement, with the rest of the lineup more or less cemented.
Steve Adams
3:51
Yeah I think it's certainly plausible DeJong is moved, even if they don't turn around and sign Correa or Seager.
3:53
Ok, I need to wrap this up for the week. Thanks so much for chatting, as always. I'm on Twitter @Adams_Steve for more questions, if you're so inclined. Anthony or I will chat with our Front Office Subscribers on Friday. Mark will chat on the site this weekend. I'll be back for another next week.

Enjoy the rest of your week, everyone!
