Do the Royals trade Brady Singer in an effort to improve their offense. Or, does Sherman loosen the purse string once again and permit J.J. to go after a a power-hitting outfielder and perhaps a  third sacker who can reach the fences fairly often and also provide good defense at the hot corner.
Steve Adams
1:27
There's no 3B available in free agency who'd fit that billing except Alex Bregman, and I'd be surprised if the Royals went that far.

A corner outfielder feels more feasible. Any of Teoscar Hernandez, Anthony Santander or Tyler O'Neill could be in Kansas City's price range.
1:28
As for Singer, he can be maddeningly inconsistent, but they don't feel like they're in a spot to move him. Wacha is probably opting out. Lugo has an opt-out after 2025. I'd hang onto him and let Ragans/Lugo/Singer head up the rotation again next season.

Do you think Willy Adames to the Mariners is a good fit? Do you think they'll pursue it?
Steve Adams
1:30
The two-year, $24MM deal to Mitch Garver was the first free agent position player Jerry Dipoto has signed for multiple years since taking over baseball operations in Seattle. It'd be a major departure from their typical way of doing business to sign Adames

Would Alonso possibly accept the QO from the Mets?
Steve Adams
1:32
No, he'll reject and pursue a nine-figure deal in the offseason. Even if he doesn't get the $100MM+ he'll surely be seeking, the "downside" is probably a two- or three-year deal with opt-outs -- one with a higher AAV than the QO bears.

Rhys Hoskins got 2/34 with an opt-out coming off an entirely lost season (ACL tear). Alonso knows that he's probably got, say, $44-50MM over two years, with an opt-out, even if he doesn't find the long-term deal he wants.

What do you think the Brewers might do to replace Adames?
Steve Adams
1:33
Move Joey Ortiz or Brice Turang to shortstop
Gleyber Pains
1:33
I have a sinking feeling that Gleyber's recent hot streak will trick the Yankees into bringing him back.
Steve Adams
1:34
I don't think so. I think the cleanest and likeliest outcome is that Torres walks and Jazz moves over to 2B
Pirates just designated Rowdy Tellez and Michael A. Taylor for assignment
Both free agents at season's end. Younger options (Liover Peguero, Joshua Palacios) who are controlled beyond the season were called up in their place.

whose more likely to return  to the bronx on a pillow contract torres or holmes
Steve Adams
1:35
I don't think either Torres or Holmes will need to sign a pillow contract

How much payroll room do you think the Jays have this winter? How many big adds can they make? Seems like they need some
Steve Adams
1:40
They opened the current season with a $225MM payroll and have $124MM on next year's books. That doesn't include arb raises to Vlad ($25MM+), Varsho, Kirk, Romano and others. I still think they'll be $50MM or so short of their 2024 Opening Day mark once you factor in arb raises and league-min players to round out the roster, though. Potential trades or a green-light from ownership to push payroll beyond this past year's mark could impact that as well, obviously.

Christian Walker Over/Under on years and money per year.......3.5 years / $22.5 per
Steve Adams
1:41
I think he'll get a 3-year deal in the $20MM-per-year range

What's  your thoughts are Cardinals FA activity and will Goldschimdt and Gibson be brought back At this stage IMO going with youth  is the better choice. Thank you
Steve Adams
1:42
I would be very surprised if they don't pick up Gibson's option. I think they'll exercise Gibson, decline Lynn and let Goldschmidt walk.

1:42
What happens to Kyle Higashioka next year in terms of expected contract $ and duration?
Steve Adams
1:44
I could see something in the 2/12 range based on the glove and power. Even that would be an outlier deal, as Kurt Suzuki's 2/10 with the Nats back in '18 is the largest in recent history for a free agent catcher beginning at age 35 or later.
1:45
Could also end up in the 8-10 range over two, but I went 12 just figuring there'll be some demand at the position and the free agent class is terrible.
Sean Manaea
1:46
What kind of contract can I expect this offseason?
Steve Adams
1:48
Mentioned before re: Pivetta that SPs 32 and over just haven't commanded deals beyond three years, with exceptions being deGrom and Ryu. Manaea will be 33 next season. I think it tops at three years but he has a case to be the rare four-year pitcher at this age. For now, I'll say 3/66, moving him just past Chris Bassitt (3/63)

Could you see the Guardians move Andres Gimenez from 2B to SS to accommodate bringing up Travis Bazzana??
Steve Adams
1:49
I was on board with them moving Gimenez to SS even before they drafted Bazzana.

Any chance the D'backs move on from Torey Luvullo despite last season's run and extension? His in game decisions have always been and remain poor.
Steve Adams
1:50
I doubt it, personally.

For the record, I think this now makes over half the league's managers I've been asked about being fired, all in this chat alone. And all with some variation of "he just makes poor/indefensible/awful decisions."
Basically, every fan base thinks their manager is an idiot.

Schwarber having serious consistency with the Phillies (30 HR, 100 RBIs, 100 Runs, 100 walks) and seems to have a great connection with the city & fan base, any chance of an extension this offseason?
Steve Adams
1:52
I could see them trying to tack on another couple years, yeah. They did it with Wheeler. I agree he's become a big part of their identity, and he's the clearly plus-plus makeup guy that every team relishes having in the clubhouse.

1:52
Vogt or Quartaro for MOY due to these managers NOT being idiots?. (had to do it)..
Steve Adams
1:53
Yeah, it's going to be one of those two. "Manager of the Year" is basically just "Manager of the playoff team most people didn't expect to contend." I think it'll be Vogt, since he's a rookie manager with a much younger team that's had to navigate way more injuries than Kansas City has.

How many terrible years do we have in front of us?
Steve Adams
1:54
Oof. I'd say two more at least.
WhosYourTiger?
1:54
You mentioned tigers have plenty of payroll space.   But do you think they will spend a bunch of it?   Or stick to players on one year deals.
Steve Adams
1:56
I don't think they'll sign Juan Soto or anything -- although hell, they should try to! -- but anyone else feels like they can be realistically in play. Rotation help and a corner outfield bat would be sensible, and there will be boatloads of Bregman speculation because of AJ Hinch.
Although there was also boatloads of Tigers/Carlos Correa speculation because of AJ Hinch, and, well.
