Bellinger's play in September has strengthened the case a little bit, and he might be tempted by the awful CF class. But I don't think it makes much sense to turn down a $27.5MM player option when he can opt out again next year. He could probably get a stronger multi-year deal than the $50MM he has left, but I doubt he's going to top that AAV. And with a bigger '25 showing, he could more plausibly be in position for a $100MM+ deal that I just don't think is there right now.

How would you feel if the Tigers added one of Alonso/Santander as well as Walker Buehler? Would they be AL Central title contenders?

I'd like to see them aim higher than Buehler on the SP side. Obviously the ceiling there is enormous, but they should be pursuing surer things, in my view. Then again, if they signed Santander/Alonso, Buehler AND a more reliable starter, now we're cooking. And at least in terms of pure payroll considerations, there's no reason to think they couldn't.
