I think Morrison should get one, but Rays always have to be cost-conscious and wouldn't want to may LoMo $18MM when they're already offering one to Cobb (though I think Cobb will reject pretty easily).
I'm sure I missed someone so if I did shout it out. (It's also possible I just don't think that guy's gonna get one though)

How hot is my seat NOW???
Steve Adams
3:45
I think him and Duq are both around through at least 2018. If the O's fall on their faces again, Angelos & Co. might look more closely at a change

Could the Mariners sign Cozart and Move Cano to First, with Segura going to second? Cano and Segura have combined for 35 Errors!
Steve Adams
3:47
If the Mariners believe that the decline in Cano's defensive metrics is legitimate and he's no longer even an average second baseman -- I haven't watched him play much this season and am not a scout anyhow, so I'm not in a great position to comment -- then I'd be fine with that idea. I've never seen much praise for Segura's glove at SS, and the Mariners need a 1B upgrade, so that'd be a decent and creative way to improve the defense and offense. And they've obviously had interest in Cozart in the past.

When you did the Orioles' three needs, did you consider including a new owner?
Steve Adams
3:49
Ha.

To my knowledge we actually haven't done one yet! I was actually chatting with Jeff today about how we'd structure that post since there are so many ways to go with it. I'll need to double-check that Connor or Mark didn't slip that in on a weekend without me noticing though.
And no, a new owner wasn't one of the suggested needs :)

any news on Lincecum?
Steve Adams
3:50
One of the Giants beat guys (Maybe Baggarly?) recently did a column on how Lincecum has gone radio silent. His agent, his dad and the player himself all basically ignored interview requests.

Last I saw he was working out on his own, but he's pretty far removed from having any actual on-field value at this point. He's a name, but right now he's not much more than that.

Is Otani suited for the NL or is he a AL guy?
Steve Adams
3:51
I don't think there's really a clear definition of "AL guy" vs. "NL guy," but he loves to hit and I doubt a team is going to invest a significant chunk of its future in his right arm while also allowing him to roam the outfield five days a week. DHing might be another story, so I assume he lands in the AL.

Who are your picks for Rookie of the Year, MVP, Manager of the Year, Comeback Player of the Year, and Reliever of the Year in both the AL and NL?
Steve Adams
3:54
Judge and Bellinger for the ROYs. MVPs are close enough that the final six games could actually impact them. Manager of the Year I've given no thought to because I honestly find it to be a somewhat silly award. Haven't looked at Comeback closely... Kimbrel in the NL and honestly maybe Corey Knebel in the NL, though if you wanted to pick Jansen I couldn't fight you much on it.

3:55
Cozart to the Padres makes too much sense, right?
Steve Adams
3:56
It makes some sense in that they desperately need a shortstop. It makes less sense when considering that they're not going to contend next year anyhow, so paying a 32-year-old SS something like $12-15MM annually on a three- or four-year deal doesn't really help their rebuild.

3:57
Brewers probably need a starting arm until they know where Nelson is. Any suggestions on who might work out for them on a reasonable, affordable but not necessarily cheap deal? I like Tyler Chatwood.
Steve Adams
3:58
Yeah I like Chatwood, though I wonder if he's going to be more expensive than a lot of people realize. The ground-ball tendencies and velocity are appealing, he's so much better away from Coors, he's a young free agent (28 for all of next season)... I don't think he's going to sign some little Ivan Nova style three-year, $26MM deal this winter. I think he can do pretty well on the open market since no team is evaluating pitchers on things like ERA anymore

What would Atlanta be willing to give up for Fulmer.
Steve Adams
3:59
Tigers aren't selling low on Fulmer coming off arm surgery.

Will we ever see a trade between the Red Sox and Padres again?
Steve Adams
4:00
Sure. Dombrowski and Preller don't necessarily have to like one another, but if the Padres have a player the Red Sox want, the past isn't going to stand in the way of two teams trying to get better.
Plus, they'll both eventually have new front offices.

Jose Pagan last played for the 1973 Phillies and is 82 years old: http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=1009950&position=3B/SS

Don't hold your breath. :)

Jose Pagan comes back next year...where?
Steve Adams
4:02
Got so excited by my joke that I didn't publish the question. CART BEFORE HORSE STEVE.
Amateur hour.
Now then, assuming you mean Angel Pagan
4:03
His reason last time around was that he didn't feel he needed to come to Spring Training and earn a spot after having a solid year at the plate in 2016. He's definitely looking at a MInor League deal now, so unless he's itching to return after spending a year off, I think it's probably safer to assume he just continues to enjoy spending time with his wife and kids.

4:04
If he can do better on the open market than players like nova, should the Rockies give Chatwood a QO?
Steve Adams
4:05
I actually don't mind the idea of them doing it, since I don't think Chatwood on a one-year overpay is a bad outcome for a team with rotation needs, but I think they'd fear him accepting -- and truthfully, he'd have to think about it.

Part of the appeal of him in free agency that I was assuming without spelling out, though, might be that he's unattached to a QO. It'd only help his cause.

What sort of prospect do the White Sox need in the draft this year/next year? Any early favorites?
Steve Adams
4:06
It is way, way, way waaaayyyy too early to handicap the top few picks in next year's draft. That'll change so much over the course of the next 10 months and next year's college/high school seasons that it's scarcely worth looking at just yet.

Is the $300,000 some teams are limited to spending on Ontani  in relation to the signing bonus or his full salary? because MLB min for 2018 is $545,000 so how does that work.
Steve Adams
4:09
Because Otani is an international amateur, by definition of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (he lacks the professional experience and is too young to be considered a pro), he can only sign a minor league contract with a signing bonus that is derived from teams' league-allotted international bonus pools.

The teams that exceeded their 2015-16 or 2016-17 pools by more than 15 percent are forbidden from giving more than $300K of their pool to one player.

Once Otani agrees to whatever bonus he takes, he'll earn the league minimum after that once he's added to the 40-man roster (which, one would imagine, will happen right at the beginning of the 2018 season).
Basically, his signing bonus is just that -- a bonus -- and is thus not related to next year's MLB salary.

San Francisco Giants: Is this year a fluke or the new norm for them?
Steve Adams
4:12
They've had some fluky things go wrong for them, to be sure -- Bumgarner's dirtbike snafu leading the charge. But while they've had some poor luck, they're also getting older, and it's not realistic to expect someone like Pence to enjoy a significant turnaround. Cain will be gone, but the Triple-A options in the rotation aren't super exciting, so they'll need to add some pieces.

I think Shark will have a much better year in 2018, given his K-BB wizardry and maintained velocity, and I think it's reasonable to expect better output from Moore. But it's a pretty flawed roster with a lot of question marks and marginal depth at the upper levels of the farm. It needs a lot of work.

Given the orioles need for pitching depth, who says no to a Mark trumbo, James Shields swap ?
