He's a corner-only outfielder with a good-not-great bat. You're valuing him based on his previous track record, but that didn't get anyone paid last season, and McCutchen's walk year hasn't even been all that good. Corner bats with limited defensive value have been more devalued than any other subset of players.

Really, he just went unclaimed on waivers when he had something like $3MM remaining for the final six weeks of the deal. I know more teams will be more willing to spend this winter, but who's giving him $23.33MM annually? I can't even see that on a one-year deal.

What kind of contract should I be offered this offseason? Something in the range of this years contract?

Nothing has changed about him from 2017 to 2018 except that he's a year older. I think it's a one-year deal again. Maybe some team loves him and goes up to $5-6MM instead of the $4MM he took this year, but those types of guys just aren't all that highly valued in today's game.

Without a question. D-Rod has had a fine season, but Buehler's stuff is better, his results are more sustainable and he's two years younger
