I mentioned Minnesota cornerback Justin Walley earlier. I also like Nebraska defensive tackle Ty Robinson as a depth interior pass rusher and Pitt receiver Konata Mumpfield. All have specific skillsets who could find their way to being useful for the Steelers.

Thanks for the great coverage Chris! What is your thoughts on drafting a qb? I think it is pretty obvious Aaron R does not want to play for us.
Christopher Carter
1:15
Thank you! I think if Rodgers doesn't sign, the best move is to not overdraft a backup quarterback in the first round and wait until the third or fourth round. Sign a different veteran quarterback (Carson Wentz, meh) and make it about Mason Rudolph, that other vet and your rookie. Better to stomach a year of that than waste another first round pick on a backup quarterback.

Hello Christopher-This is great! Thanks for doing a chat. Do you feel the Steelers will make a move to get back a 2nd round pick somehow?
Christopher Carter
1:16
Of course! I do think there should be an attempt to get at least an earlier day 2 pick even if it's just an early third round pick. Best way to do that though is to trade back in the first.

How big is the gap between sanders and dart, dart and shough in current nfl qb comparisons. I think if ward is the best (mahomes), sanders is Jared Goff, dart is stroud, and shough is Derek Carr. Does this seem right? Obviously ward isn’t mahomes etc, but is this the size of the gaps in your mind? If not, what do you see it as being?
Christopher Carter
1:19
Well, it's pretty big. I think this is more like the 2019 NFL Draft QB class.
Cam Ward: Kyler Murray
Shedeur Sanders: Daniel Jones
Jalen Milroe: Dwayne Haskins
Jaxson Dart: Drew Lock.

Not as exact player comparisons, but where I see their value being in the NFL. There's a steep dropoff from Ward to Sanders, another one to Milroe, then another to Dart. It's a chasm between Sanders and Dart in my opinion. Just don't think Dart is it.

Their 30 visits broke down as 9 RBs, 8 DLs, 4 QBs, 4 WRs, 3 CBs and then OL, S, TE, and K. Suggests they're looking at RBs and DLs throughout the draft and, based on the QB visits - potentially 1st if the DL or RB they like isn't there, otherwise day 2 or 3. Assuming they don't get back into the 2nd Rnd and things fall as they hope should we expect DL at 1, RB at 3, highest ranked player at QB, DL, WR at 4-7 with a CB miixed in somewhere after Rnd 3? Have to think with this depth at DL they're going to double dip.
Christopher Carter
1:20
You're reading the tea leaves. I think it's DL-RB-QB with their current first three picks and then they work the rest in after that.

Congrats on the new post, welcome to the PPG Steelers chat crew! Given the Steelers interest in Kyle Juszczyk this off season, what other draft prospects could you see filling this role, which could benefit their Tush-Push and Red Zone short yardage game plans? I’d love to see a two way player like J.J. Pegues in a later round.
Christopher Carter
1:24
Thanks Gus! Heh, JJ Pegues would be fun. I haven't studied fullback prospects at all. But I do think a look at Miami's Damien Martinez can be a good power back with speed and explosiveness.

is the RB or Dl class deeper this year
Christopher Carter
1:24
I'd say the RB class is deeper. There are legit starting options who could fall to the third or fourth round among the RBs. DTs, that dips after the second.

I don't buy the QB at 21 talk and think it's national media's attempt to stoke clicks and advertising revenue. It sounds like it's one of Harmon, Nolen, or Grant, potentially Jeanty if DL is gone and he somehow falls, or try and trade back to Rnd 2.
Christopher Carter
1:26
Agreed. This is not the year to reach at quarterback. DT is the move if any of those three you named are there.

1:26
how high does a player have to be on your big board if you are the Steelers to get them, regardless of position. Would the Steelers take jeanty, Abdul carter, Tyler Warren, Tet McMillan, etc, at 21 if Harmon and grant and dart are available. What prospects do you think the Steelers must draft over a positional need if they fall? Also if they somehow get like Mike green, and that must signal the end of watt, correct?
Christopher Carter
1:33
So, players high up on my board are just my rankings. The Steelers should be open to drafting them if they fall, but I just think there are some (like Carter/Warren/Hunter) who they will not have the ammo to trade up for. I like some of those options like Mike Green, but not over priority positions ranked at the same spot.
Cal from nh
1:33
whouod the Steelers trade up to 10 with the bears for mason graham if he falls? I don’t really see him getting much farther down with the 49ers needing dls
Christopher Carter
1:33
I think if Mason Graham falls they'll take that as a sign they'll be able to get Kenneth Grant or Derrick Harmon without trading and stay put.

Last year I thought Omar missed out on significant contributions from passing on bigger TEs Theo Johnson and Brevyn Spann-Ford, who both played well (against the Steelers), any similar TE prospects in mid to late rounds this year that could make a push for TE2 or TE3?
Christopher Carter
1:35
I like Oronde Gadsden out of Syracuse as a late round option.
Cal from nh
1:35
Is Tyler Warren the surest thing in this draft? Everything seems to convert better for him than every other prospect.
Christopher Carter
1:35
That would be Abdul Carter. I think he's the superstar.

If Steelers take emmanwori, will they try to ship Fitzpatrick for a pick
Christopher Carter
1:37
Possibly. Emmanwori has a great athletic profile and looks like a potential starter right away. Just not sure they want to move on from Fitzpatrick right away.

If you were a gambling man, what % chance do you give 2 of Harmon, Nolan, Grant being there at 21?

#TheHardestWorkingManInSportsBiz
Christopher Carter
1:38
Sup coach! I'd give it a 65% chance 2 of those 3 are there at 21. I think it's a 45% chance Grant is gone by then.

Glad you don’t think Sander or Dart are first rounders.  I just hope the Steelers don’t!

What is it with the fans who think that Milton is so good?  He played one decent game against a team playing mostly backups in a game that had no meaning.
Christopher Carter
1:46
People always cling to the prospect of a really good quarterback off the smallest of evidence. Remember Matt Flynn? No? He played a really good game for the Packers one time and got paid major dollars by the Seahawks off of that. Then Russell Wilson came and he was forgotten. I don't trip over options like that.

I have Locked On Steelers on right now, am in this chat, and am working. Is that too much of  #TheHardestWorkingManInSportsBiz?

Hey! Be sure to tune into the North Shore Drive podcast this afternoon! Thanks coach!

Beyond Derick Harmon, which DL is best suited for the 5 tech role? Seems like Tonka Hemingway might be a quality later option if they go NT/DT early. What say you?
Christopher Carter
1:48
Alfred Collins or Darius Alexander IMHO.
PghFNinCali
1:48
The Steelers need way more than a rookie QB to help their team. Why not start Mason, Draft a later round QB and use your picks on positions that can make the team deeper at positions that help the team get better around the QB (for now and future)
Christopher Carter
1:48
This is what I think is the plan!
Coach Johnson
1:49
If the Steez take Skattebo, will he have the highest loved by fans to talent ratio since Fuuuuu

#TheHardestWorkingManInSportsBiz
Christopher Carter
1:50
Ha! That would be interesting. But Skattebo also literally hasn't had a single contact point with the Steelers. Seems like they're staying far away. Heck of a player though.

Could you see the Steelers trade this years 3rd & next years to get back in the 2nd round?
