As the person who's done more exclusive coverage of Konata Mumpfield than anyone in the country, I think he'd be a heck of a fit. His ability to separate and make plays on the ball should make him a very good NFL receiver. Steelers would be smart to take him and have him compete with Roman Wilson.

Brugler mock
1 (21). QB Shedeur Sanders, Colorado
3 (83). RB Dylan Sampson, Tennessee
4 (123). DT Jordan Phillips, Maryland
5 (156). Edge Elijah Roberts, SMU
6 (185). WR Chimere Dike, Florida
7 (229). LB Carson Bruener, Washington

thoughts? how would you grade it?
Christopher Carter
2:35
D.
Really like Sampson and Phillips would be a good DT option behind getting a first round one. But without a first round DT/WR/CB and a QB I see as a backup, bleh.

could Shemar Stewart get moved inside? he confuses me. no production crazy athlete, basically demarvin leal but better. I see him going to the 49ers opposite boss, then to the colts next to Buckner. how does that make sense. only jj watt and Aaron Donald really dominated outside and inside like that, and I doubt he is either
Christopher Carter

Everyone is wondering how this would go. His athleticism numbers are insane, so I think he could make it work.

In a far fetched scenario where the Steelers trade Pickens and get a pick that allows them to grab Egbuka, Higgins or Ayomanor, then they snag two mid round RBs, which two would you pair for the future?
Christopher Carter
2:37
Don't think they get two RBs. But if Pickens is gone, I'd go with Higgens and Dylan Sampson.

if Pickens has 750 yards and 5 TDs by week eight, but the steelers are 2-5-1, will they trade him? and what would the value be after last years midseason acquisitions at the position kind of flopped? the cardinals or packers may be interested in giving a second, but the steelers consistently scam teams, which may hurt them while shopping him. I would hate to have a bad record while he plays well and see him go for nothing or a 3rd or fourth rounder
Christopher Carter
2:37
All depends on if someone calls the Steelers. I could see a trade happening. But I have to wonder how many times they can pull off the "hey take my WR I don't want anymore" trick before NFL teams don't buy it (Chase Claypool, Diontae Johnson.)

Justify drafting Will Johnson.  He's so slow he's afraid to run a 40 and seems to be a zone exclusive CB while we want to play press man.
Christopher Carter
2:38
He's technically sound enough and physical to pull it off in my opinion. I think he's a guy you make an exception for, scheme-wise.

Why use a 3rd round pick on Will Howard if his comp is Mason Rudolph? Just keep Mason. Wouldn't it be better to pick a QB with starter potential instead of a QB2 ceiling?
Christopher Carter
2:39
I've been consitently saying a 4th round pick. Also, you could keep both? It would be better to draft a QB with starter potential but I don't think there are more than one or two in this class.

is dillon Gabriel still alive? I haven't heard his name in months. I thought he was supposed to be Taylor hienicke or something like that
Christopher Carter
2:39
Because his skillset and traits will most likely not translate well to the NFL. That's almost a consensus now.
J D
2:39
Chris, do you think the Steelers will trade anyone, regardless if they have to eat some money, for a second round pick?
Christopher Carter
2:40
I don't. I think they like George Pickens for now and don't see them moving away one of their captains.

how long till they cut ties with louder milk and little Hayward and leal and Patterson and Pruitt. damn! a ton of players doing nothing. why do they still have them?
Christopher Carter
2:41
Well, Heyward and Leal are on rookie deals. So, maybe just the end of those. But every player you named is extremely cheap and is buried in the depth chart. Every team has players like that.
J D
2:41
Chris, do you think Mason can handle being the starter for the entire year both physically but more mentally for me?  He's never had to do it before.
Christopher Carter
2:41
I think he could if the O-line steps up and the run game becomes a serious threat. But if that doesn't happen, Rudolph will be in over his head.

do the guys like van Jefferson, Pruitt, and Patterson have dirt they will throw on smith if he cuts them. so wierd
Christopher Carter
2:42
What? No? They're depth players. Every team has them.
J D
2:42
Chris, do you think the Steelers scouts are hitting more or missing, or they mediocre like the team?
Christopher Carter
2:42
It's important to remember the scouts changed A LOT from Colbert to Khan. So, will take time to determine if they're hitting more than missing with the last two drafts.
NY Steel

Was drafting OT in the first two rounds for two consecutive years the BPA choice or were they force feeding a need?
Christopher Carter
2:43
I think both aligned well with need and BPA. I literally called on WPXI that week they would and should trade up for Broderick Jones to the exact spot they did.
J D
2:43
Chris, how would you rate Art Smith's first year from 1-5 with 5 being excellent?
Christopher Carter
2:44
2 - Primarily because of the finish. The offense looked like it figured things out and then it dissipated. Can't have that this year. They're no closer to finding that dominant run personality they've wanted for years. Has to change.
J D
2:44
Chris, MT likes fast quick guys but most seem to never pan out both on offense and defense.  Is he losing his touch?
Christopher Carter
2:45
Depends! Calvin Austin is plenty fast and quick and I think ahs beena solid 4th round option. They haven't really spent high on such a player in a while.

Chris, thanks for the chats and great articles!!

Thanks for enjoying the work!

Hi Chris great chat. How about not drafting QB at all and just go with Mason, Vet and Thompson? Draft 1-DL,3- RB, 4-WR, 5-DL, 6-CB, 7-OL?
Christopher Carter
2:45
Thanks Tim! I still think this team needs a young QB in the room to develop. That's why i have them going QB in the 4th/5th round.
2:46
Alright everyone, that's all the questions in the queue! I'm about to go eat lunch! Have a great day!
