Very likely. They need another for the top of the rotation and to replenish the ranks beneath them.

I think an excellent future article would be profiling the QBs taken in each round in the past 25 years to show how rare it is for QBs drafted in the 4th round or later that actually became productive starters.
Christopher Carter
2:18
Sure. I also think you could do that for first round quarterbacks. Did you know that since the 2004 draft when Roethlisberger-Manning were picked, the only quarterback picked inside the top 10 who won a Super Bowl for the team that picked them is Patrick Mahomes?
Hammering Hank
2:18
Howard is not the answer. Hopefully their late rd QB pick is  Riley Lennord,
Christopher Carter
2:18
Maybe! Leonard's athleticism could be interesting.

if you could bring back one retired steelers great to make this team as good as possible, it would have to be big ben or Joe green right?
Christopher Carter
2:19
If we're talking about a player in their prime, yeah, Roethlisberger or Bradshaw. Greene is always a possibility as he's the GOAT DT. But QB would be vital.

CC, We don't have a QB or a 2nd-round pick. The Ravens have Lamar and 11 picks. Supposedly, they are interested in Harmon out of Oregon as well. See where I am going with this?
Christopher Carter
2:20
They could make a move for him! Certainly have to be aware of those who want to jump ahead of you.

why are you higher on milroe that dart or shough? I watch a lot of their tape and I never see milroe and think that he could be better than Anthony Richardson. always looks like he might make a nice linebacker or tight end though. Shough and dart, while potentially they have lower ceilings, are much more likely to reach those ceilings.
Christopher Carter
2:20
I like Milroe's ceiling with his speed and athleticism where if he put it together, he'd be better than both. I think Shough is the better QB right now of the three. I also think Dart's a bigger project with a lot less going for him on the potential side.

would sending a 4th for hendon hooker not be smart? he is good when not hurt and the lions got Bridgewater back. he has learned in a great system, and the likelihood of that 4th being puka nacua seems low. I liked hookers game when he came out of college
Christopher Carter
2:22
Hendon Hooker. For how many times I had to cover him playing Pitt, that would be interesting (remember, he was at Virginia Tech and played in both Tennessee games!) But I think that 4th can be better used on a rookie.

I feel the Steelers out smarted them selves by not bidding a little more for Fields & after that they should have gone for Flacco he would have been cheaper & just as good as AR
Christopher Carter
2:23
I do think they blew it on the quarterback moves. I felt Fields was a legit option, and that Wilson also would've made sense to keep.

Chris - thanks for the chat.  Inside tip for you. Stillers should pass on QBs in this years draft and trade a 5th round pick to the Bears for Ty Bagent.  The kid is good and better than anyone coming out this year.  Write it down
Christopher Carter
2:23
I can't say I know much about Ty Bagent but I'm all for passing on early QBs this year.
AK
2:23
Wouldn’t the Steelers take a huge cap hit by trading Fitzpatrick?
Christopher Carter
2:24
They would incur $13.7M in dead space this year and $6.8M next year I believe. But that's money already built in if he stays. They'd get back $8.6M this year in cap space if they cut him, and $17.6M next year.

if the steelers are playing the comp pick game, why would they not grab a dl in the first, a rb in the third, and trade all of the picks they have left for picks next year. you need more than pick 20 and 2 third rounder and a couple sixth rounders to move up if the qb class is that good. However you could package a first, a second, another second created by trading George/Fitzpatrick or late round picks, and a few comp thirds to get into arch manning range. seems dumb to use a bunch of 6th and 7th rounders on crap shoots instead of investing to actually get your guy next year
Christopher Carter
2:25
I'm all for taking the early picks you suggested and them going after QB next year with as much ammo they can carry.
Ron
2:26
Should have sign Flacco , only got 4 million from the Browns compare to what AR wants
Christopher Carter
2:26
Maybe. Aaron Rodgers also just hinted he would take $10M so, not sure if it's all that big a deal.

what do you see in milroe? do GMs see it? they seem to like shough and dart more. they see these guys as late first to mid second rounders, with milroe in the mid 3rd. you see the opposite I think. Please explain
Christopher Carter
2:27
I see the 4.4 speed on the 40-yard dash and the arm strength to get the ball to different spots. I just also see him as a big project beforfe he can put it all together. Which is why I see him in the third round.

Any good run stuffing d linemen in later rounds who Steelers are looking at?
Christopher Carter
2:28
Jamaree Caldwell, Oregon. Yahya Black, Iowa. Both will go day 3 of the draft, both were top 30 visits.
Brian
2:28
Where do people get the idea Grant is some great run defender?  He took often plays with a narrow base and gets washed like a (much) bigger Keanu Benton.  I know his highlight tape is tantalizing, but his game tape is lackluster.  Is this a case of people thinking that because he's fat he's good against the run, and being wowed by him chasing down the slow PSU RB?
Christopher Carter
2:29
Probably from the several games he ate double teams and blew up run plays with his ability to anchor down against interior offensive linemen with a good lower base and solid hand placement.

if travis hunter only played one side of the ball would he be a first rounder? in the nfl can he be cb1 and wr1 or cb2 and wr2? could he slip due to teams not really knowing how he will do? jets would be happy to end that slide
Christopher Carter
2:29
I think so. I still think he should be a CB. He has all the elite traits to be the guy.

Bruglers 7 rounder just came out and has sanders to the steelers with harmon going to the bengals. Kenneth Grant, will Johnson, jahdae Barron, and Walter Nolan are the next 4 picks in that order. is that the worst mock you have seen. I would prefer all four of them to sanders
Christopher Carter
2:30
Yeah I feel like if it's even this, that's time to trade back. Because if you can move back 3-4 spots, maybe pick up a 3rd, and still get one of those four you named, you won.
Brian
2:30
It's day 2 of the draft.  Ayomanor/Bech/Higgins/Harris/Royals are sitting their and you get a call from the team on the clock willing to trade their pick for GP.  Do you make the move and take one of the aforementioned WRs?
Christopher Carter
2:31
Daggumit Brian, this is a tough question. I personally really like Jayden Higgins, Jack Bech and Elic Ayomanor. It would be hard to pass on the prospect of getting one of those on a rookie deal for four years alongside Metcalf.

people keep saying that sanders would be a good fit because Tomlin is good with personalities, but the rams could better develop him and the big city is an attraction. don't they make more sense?
Christopher Carter
2:33
I mean, does that matter? If the Steelers want him, he'll be their pick. If they don't he'll go somewhere else. Rams pick later so maybe they'd be the team to do it. It's not like he's announcing his commitment. (Starts to have PTSD of covering the transfer portal.)
