Fun fact, for 0.6 wins the Cubs fly the W flag only 60% of its usual height!

Ohtani will never come to this Cubs team, He would be farther away from the playoffs then with the Angels ?

10:38
If you want a glimmer of hope, these were Ohtani's seven finalists in 2017: Angels, Cubs, Dodgers, Giants, Mariners, Padres and Rangers

An obvious west coast leaning, but the Cubs were the one midwest team that intrigued him to at least some degree.
I don't know what makes him tick.  But if we prefers the west coast, and wants to play in the World Series, signing with the Dodgers or Padres seemingly makes more sense than the Cubs.
Hi Tim

If Stroman opts out of his contract, can the Cubs make him a qualifying offer and at least get a draft pick?
Tim Dierkes
Stroman is not eligible to receive a QO

I see catcher as a big question moving forward. What would you do to improve this?
Tim Dierkes

I feel like the current plan involves some influence from David Ross.  If Amaya doesn't work out, there are no interesting catchers in the 2023-24 free agent class.  I'd expect a lot of mediocrity at the position for the next 3+ years unless the Cubs use a first-round pick on a catcher.

Am I the only cub fan who's not in love with Ian Happ?

Thoughts on the Cubs fam system and general approach to prioritize pitching over hitting?  On the one hand, the system is much improved, on the other it's nowhere close to the 2013-2014 level, and it's hard to see how it gets to the true upper echelon if the Cubs are shifting to try to win this/next year.  And in general, I thought Theo's approach of prioritizing hitters was much safer than Jed's approach--the Cubs have quite a few promising pitching prospects, but they're also a bad injury year away from being back to a bottom half farm system. Thoughts?

Let's close it out with this one.
10:46
Theo's drafts ran 2012-20
10:47
#6 - Almora. #2 - Bryant. #4 - Schwarber. #9 - Happ.
10:48
That's a really nice success rate on bats during their rebuilding period.
10:49
In 2016, they didn't pick until the third round
2017: #27 - Brendon Little (pitcher)
10:50
2018: #24 - Nico
2019: #27 - Ryan Jensen (pitcher)
2020 - #16 - Ed Howard
10:51
Jed takes #21 Jordan Wicks and #7 Cade Horton
10:52
I don't think you can really compare the two, because Jed did not have four top nine picks in a row.  But fair to say the Cubs did well on KB and Schwarber and won the WS in a good part because of it
10:53
Horton's their best pitching prospect, no idea how that will go.  Wicks got a 45 grade and could be a back-end MLB starter as soon as this year.
10:55
Theo had some pretty bad picks in there once in stopped drafting in the top ten, you'd have to say.  So I think drafting the more reliable college hitters and buying the arms (Lester) made sense for that team at that time, but these Cubs haven't been in that position aside from Horton.  3-4 years from now we'll be able to look at the 2022 draft and see if the apparent switch in philosophy was a wise one.
10:56
Brooks Lee, Gavin Cross, Kevin Parada, Jace Jung, Zach Neto, Jett Williams, Chase DeLauter, Justin Crawford, Cam Collier, Daniel Susac - are any of these guys on the star track at that point?
Alright, I'm gonna run.  Thanks everyone for chatting!
