Hello. Just wanted to know that in case we pursue a non legal course from northwestern, will we get any credits for that?
AvatarAdi Altshuler
9:33
yes, absolutely. I also recommend sending me your plan if you want to make sure you comply with the requirements of the bar. It would be helpful to me if you tell me also a bit about yourself and your goals for the year when doing so.

Hi Adi, thanks for your patience. If I want to make an overall plan in the whole academic year, can I e-mail to you or other assistants to recommand the courses that suit me better?
AvatarNell Novara
9:33
Correct- we will make sure to not conflict with any course you are already enrolled in

Hi, while someone asked a question about CLR sections, I'd like to confirm about CLR. If I am enrolled in another course that conflicts one of the CLR classes, will you assign me to another CLR class that does not conflict my schedule? For example, if I select other class from 2:35pm to 4:00pm on  Tuesdays, you will assign me to CLR class on Mondays & Wednesdays?

The Kellogg courses taught through the law school are taught on the downtown campus.
Rahmad Sanjani
9:32
For Kellogg courses, will it be taught on the Downtown campus or we need to travel to Evanston?
AvatarAdi Altshuler

Students have to take either Civ Pro or Con Law, if there will be open spaces after bidding we will allow those who have taken already one of the courses to register for an additional one. I do not expect a problem with seats in the spring semester for Constitutional Law.
María
9:32
I am confused about the mandatory courses. Do we have to chose Civil Procedure or Constitutional Law, or should we take both? If we need to choose only one, and want to take constitutional law, is there a risk of not getting into the class for spring after the bidding process?

Hi- the pro bono hours for the NY Bar must be secured outside of the classroom; thus, you cannot receive credit for any hours associated with your classwork here and the Pro Bono in Large Law Firms course would not provide you with any pro bono hours for the bar.
Goktug Selvitopu

Hi Nell, just to follow up on the earlier question regarding the pro bono requirement for the NY Bar, does the "Pro Bono in Large Law Firms" also count in satisfying such requirement, as is the case with the Public Service Program. Thanks in advance.
AvatarAdi Altshuler

yes, we have several offered this year. In the fall semester, we offer Business Analytics and Business Strategy and Accounting for Decision Makers all by Kellogg professors.

Do we have any financial courses provided by the business school? How can we identify which one is provided by the business school?
AvatarNell Novara
9:29
Yes, BA is a pre-requisite for several courses. Make sure to review whether a course has any pre-requisites by looking at the bottom of some course descriptions, where you will see Prerequisites listed. If courses have prerequisites, they apply to you and you cannot enroll in these courses unless you have received a pre- requisite waiver, which you can find on the Registrar's website: https://www.law.northwestern.edu/registrar/registration/

Good morning, could I know if BA is an enrollment requirement of any other courses?
AvatarAdi Altshuler
9:29
Usually not, because that will require work authorization, also employers assume their interns have taken the mandatory 1L courses. If there is a particular practicum you are interested in, check with me after the bidding.

Hi Adi and Nell! I was wondering if it is possible for an LLM student to be placed in a Practicum if open spaces are still available after the bidding period comes to an end, similar to the question below relating to the same scenario for Legal Clinics. Thanks in advance.
AvatarAdi Altshuler
9:27
I suggest you first make a plan of the courses you wish to take for the entire year (fall and spring) and mark those that you have to take - mandatory courses for graduation - and those you may wish to take for other reasons (bar, interest). Se which courses are most important to you. Then check which of these are offered in multiple semesters and in multiple sections, and then check the bidding history.
Roberto

Hi Adi. What is the best bidding strategy for LLM students?
AvatarNell Novara
9:27
Hi- Contracts II: UCC Article 2 is not currently being offered this fall or spring; the spring schedule is subject to some changes, but we cannot know or guarantee whether a course will be added.
WW
9:27
Hi Adi! I also want to know whether class Contracts II: UCC Article 2 is available only in spring or in both semesters? Cause I didn’t see this class in the catalog yet.
AvatarNell Novara

You can review the spring schedule here: http://www.northwestern.edu/caesar/in/lawspr.html[/color]
Irene Fan

Hello Nell, would you please point out where can I review the spring curriculum? I can only find 2021 Fall Class Descriptions now.  Thank you!
AvatarAdi Altshuler
9:25
yes, you will get the points back in time to re-use them in the second round of bidding. The catch is that if any students employ the same tactic, all courses' cost will rise.
xuan
9:25
I want to ask the strategy for bidding on courses. I really like a course. If I bid a half points for a course that only costs 10, will I get the refund before round 2? Will the strategy work? I am so affraid I can't take other courses I like.
AvatarNell Novara
9:25
Irene- just a follow up here- we realize this course is not currently listed in the spring schedule. We apologize- we are looking into this and will contact you when we have more information.
AvatarAdi Altshuler
9:23
Hi Irene, yes, you need to first take CLR and then you can register for the Advance Legal Writing. The course is offered in the spring as well, so plan on taking it in the spring semester.
Irene Fan
9:23
I noticed that there is an enrollment requirement (CLR) for Advanced Legal Writing (LLM), does that mean we cannot take this course in the fall semester? Or we could take both CLR and Advanced legal writing in parallel.
AvatarNell Novara
9:23
Before- make sure to do it before you bid, as the system will not enroll you in any course you have not secured a pre-requisite waiver for
Rahmad Sanjani
9:23
Thanks a lot Nell! Just to check, do I need to submit the prerequisite waiver after I bid the class, or before?
AvatarNell Novara
9:22
Hi Heidi- basically, if a class has 60 seats, the system will start assigning those seats based on whoever bids the highest. So, for example, if you bid 1000 points for Contracts LLM and were the highest bidder, you'd get the first seat. The system then fills seats based on points and whatever amount the person in the LAST seat bid- so, in this case, let's say a fellow student bid 5 points and got seat 60-- THAT is the "Cost" of the course and you will only "pay" 5 points and not the 1000. Those points are automaticaly returned to you before the next round of bidding.
Heidi
9:22
Hi Adi, how is the bid points of a course determined? Why does it happen that a person bid 1000 points for a course that only costs 5 (mentioned in the email attachment)? Thank you.
AvatarAdi Altshuler
9:22
We usually offer enough seats in these courses and rarely someone is left without a seat that is needed. Having said that, it is your responsibility to make sure you bid on these courses to get in.
Gayatri

Hi Adi, my question is regarding the courses required for the NY Bar. How do we ensure that we get all the required credits for the NY Bar, is it possible that we may lose out on some due to lack of space in the course ?
AvatarAdi Altshuler
9:20
Please send me an email and we will set a time to meet before the bidding begin.
Hyunah
9:20
Thanks - can I meet you in the first week of August (before the bidding date i.e. August 6) to discuss which classes I need to take to meet the DC bar requirements?
AvatarAdi Altshuler
9:20
Hi Maria, thanks for the question. It is not something I can tell you, but you can check prior bids on the web and get a sense for what the course went for in prior years. This can give you a starting point, but from year to year there can be differences (depending who is the professor, how many sections of the same course are offered, etc.).
María
9:20
Also, what is a reasonable amount of points to bid per class? What would be low and what would be considered too much?
AvatarNell Novara
9:19
We will be assigning CLR sections after the second round of bidding. As Adi stated above, we will make sure to not assign you a section that conflicts with any existing course you are enrolled in.
Sumio Hamada

Hi Adi. I would appreciate if you could tell me when LLM students can know which Common Law Reasoning course  will be assigned.
