If you had to rank Mississippi State, FSU and Texas from least concerned to most concerned for their rest of season outlook, how would you do it?
Aaron Fitt

I am certainly not concerned at all about Texas -- this was their first losing weekend all year, on the road against an arch rival that has plenty of offensive firepower, no shame in a series loss there. Also no shame in FSU losing a road series at Georgia Tech -- FSU's pitching gives them a high floor as long as they stay healthy, though I admit I am still a bit concerned about how the Myles Bailey injury will impact the offense over the long haul this season. So I guess by default I'd put MSU as the team out of that trio that I am more concerned about, given the back to back series losses.... but as I said earlier, I am also very confident that they'll bounce back just fine. Still think that's a regional hosting team, feel strongly about that. I expect it more likely that they fight their way back into the top 8 mix than that they wind up not hosting. Long story short: not concerned about any of them, they'll all host, and they're all real Omaha contenders with a chance to win it all.

How does the AAC look to shake out - seems like their in danger of being a 1-bid league with lots of pretty good, but not great teams?
Kendall Rogers

My feeling is the AAC will end up being a two-bid league. I think UTSA will obviously be in the field as of today, while I think ECU will be, too, granted it finishes the regular season on a high note.

Portland Pilots are 3-0 against the Ducks and Beavers this year.  Is winning the WCC tournament the only way into the field of 64?
Kendall Rogers

Yep. 6-6 in the WCC (a terrible RPI league) and 63 in the RPI = better win the tournament.

How fired up are you for Ga. Tech @ UNC this weekend? Can UNC win that series? I'm not convinced they can. Big drop from top 2 teams in the country to everyone else, it seems.

I'll be on hand Friday and Sunday, and I am certainly quite fired up for it. I think UNC has one of the nation's most talented pitching staffs and an improving position player group -- and GT has the nation's most talented lineup and an improving pitching staff. Gonna be a fun one. UNC could definitely take that series at home, no question about it. Not sure who I'm going to pick yet -- it IS hard to pick against Georgia Tech, that's an elite club. But UNC is also very very good, and playing at home, and playing well. Feels kinda like a toss-up to me.

Currently at 9-5 in the SEC, what do the Aggies need to do over the last 15 games to be a national seed?  What about a host?
Kendall Rogers

I have A&M with 17-18 wins in the league, which would make it a Top 16 host for sure, IMO, given the SOS//RPI of the remaining schedule.

Is it too harsh to question the resume USC is bringing to the table right now? 2-7 in Q1 games, 1-5 vs the likely projected tournament field. Overall, SOS and non-con SOS are meh. Feels like if the committee is forced to choose between USC and an SEC school with 16 wins for a hosting spot, USC is going to be in trouble.

We have had similar conversations in our little NerdCast chat group... USC has a great record, and we like their pitching a lot... but man, the quality wins are lacking. USC's signature series win is that four-game sweep at Cal Poly -- a team that no longer has any chance to be an at-large team. To me, that is problematic, if I'm stacking USC up against a team that might have a worse record but a lot more high-end wins. I really value marquee series wins, and USC just doesn't have any. The next two weeks, at Nebraska and vs. Purdue, are critical for USC's hosting hopes, clearly.

OK friends, that's all for me today, thanks for the discussion. See you next week!

How many Big Ten teams do you think will make the NCAA Tournament? I think 4. I think UCLA, USC, Oregon and Nebraska are the teams that I think will make the NCAA Tournament
Kendall Rogers

I'm going to go with four -- with an outside shot of a fifth team -- either Purdue or Michigan.
