Big in terms of some breathing room. We already had USC right there on the tournament bubble, and the Trojans went up 9 spots in the RPI over the past week to 39, along with a fourth-place conference standing. That means the Trojans almost definitely will be in this year's Field of 64, but we'll see if everyone else agrees on Tuesday.

Is C-USA a 2 team bid league? Any chance we could see WKU or DBU take a host spot?
Kendall Rogers
12:55
It would have to be a two-bid league right now with DBU and WKU. DBU is in great shape and WKU is in solid shape with an RPI around 30. My only hesitation on WKU is that it doesn't have a ton of room for error the rest of the way. For whatever reason, a mid-major played a non-conference SOS that is ranked 264th nationally. That's just an absolute killer with a committee. With that said, I think this is a really solid club.

12:56
Any realistic chance Oklahoma can fall and not be a host? SEC is loaded with locked-up hosts already.
Kendall Rogers
12:56
Of course. RPI is 25 and the Sooners still have Georgia, Ole Miss and Texas on the menu as opponents the remaining few weeks. Win two or all three of those series and the Sooners most definitely will be strongly in the hosting discussion.

What does Arizona need to do the rest of the season to host a Regional?
Kendall Rogers
12:59
I actually think the Wildcats are in pretty solid shape if they take care of business at home the rest of the way. That would mean taking a series from TCU, while also already having a road series win over West Virginia. That would put U of A as the highest team in the pecking order for a Big 12 host site, IMO. The RPI is already right there in hosting range.

At what point do I consider the rpi a limiting factor for nc state's hosting chances? Could get to 17 acc wins by winning 3 of the last 5 acc series and the rpi might still be in the 30s flushed
Kendall Rogers
1:01
If NC State wins three of its last five ACC series, it would probably be in a much better RPI spot. The good thing for the Wolfpack is that they still have RPI series left against 63, 6, 65, 14 and 28. There are no 'RPI killers' in that group at all. The opportunity is there for them.

Can UC Santa Barbara get in the at large discussion?
Kendall Rogers
1:08
I'm thinking UCSB's best pathway is to find a way to win the Big West tournament. With an RPI in the 60s, the Gauchos have a strong RPI team in CP this weekend before playing a host of landmine teams RPI wise the rest of the way outside of a midweek game against USC. I don't see the pathway available for now .... with that said, I can almost guarantee you the regional advisory committee would have a solid rating for the 'Chos.

Do you see any possibility of 3 Big 12 teams hosting a regional or would they have to cannibalize each other to get to that point? TCU, Arizona, and WVU all seem to be in the conversation or on the outside looking in by RPI.
Kendall Rogers
1:08
I think there's definitely a possibility of three Big 12 hosts, but I don't think it's going to be three teams with RPIs in the teens. I think one or two of those teams would have to be in a position where the committee simply cannot leave them out. I'm going to stick with two Big 12 hosts for now.

If Florida goes 9-6 in their last 15 SEC Games does that get them into the NCAA Tournament? I think it might
Kendall Rogers
1:09
Yes. It would. But I think I'd be a little surprised if the Gators went 9-6 down the stretch.

Can you imagine if Dee Kennedy stayed at Texas and was playing a 3B spot or a corner OF spot in Belyeu's absence? My goodness... anyways, thoughts on K-State's next 2 weekends?
Kendall Rogers
1:11
Should take care of business against Houston at home, but not sure I'm a massive fan of a cross country trip for two midweek games before playing a rivalry series against Kansas. With that said, this week is a MASSIVE RPI opportunity for Pete Hughes' club. NE is up to 37 in the RPI and Kansas is sitting at 34. A lot of opportunities for the Bat Cats.

Beavers are in an odd position of having a relatively mediocre final opponent of the season (LBSU at home) and then being off while most other top teams will be playing a conference tournament. If they win their remaining series (including UO, Hawaii, and Iowa on the road) will you feel confident in OSU as a national seed despite the lack of opportunities to show their stuff in the final two weeks?
Kendall Rogers
1:13
Ray -- I think any committee would have some grace for the Beavers given their scheduling challenges this season. The fact they are 10 in the RPI right now speaks volume to the resume they've put together so far. If OSU won its remaining series, it most definitely will be a Top 16 national seed, IMO. I would be floored if not.

What about the Rebs? Played TN pretty close all weekend just came up a little short on pitching. Thoughts on the rest of the season for the Rebs?
Kendall Rogers
1:14
I thought the weekend was obviously a good one for Tennessee, but I actually thought it was an encouraging weekend for the Rebels. I thought there would be some legitimate separation between the two teams, and there really wasn't outside of a couple of hits here and there. Austin Fawley was the guy who caught my attention the most in this series for the Rebs. Feeling much better about OM's staying power right now.

Are you guys predicting A&M to get in? Is there any shot whatsoever as a host?
Kendall Rogers
1:17
I'll need to talk to the team tomorrow, but I would project them in right now I think. The Aggies, as hilarious as it sounds, still have a pathway to a Top 8 (jokingly) ... the Needs report says they've have to go undefeated the rest of the season. They could finish Top 16 in the RPI by winning 16 of their last 19 games. Good luck!

Can you officially stick a fork in ECU getting to a regional without the auto?
Kendall Rogers
1:18
Yep. Not happening without winning the conference tournament with an RPI of 94 as of today.

What’s a regional matchup you want to see?
Kendall Rogers
1:19
If I could setup the postseason perfectly, I would have Texas A&M go to TCU as a two or three seed, and have that regional paired with Texas.

Better have the popcorn ready.

How much of a threat is Auburn to host a Super? Feels like they’re on a good run right now but I think fans should hope to host a regional and be pleasantly surprised if they do better than that. Or do you view this squad as a legit CWS threat?
Kendall Rogers
1:20
Bryan -- if Auburn can consistently pitch the way it did against a very solid LSU lineup this past weekend on the Plains, there's no doubt the bar for this Auburn team is a trip to Omaha, and potentially even more. I'm intrigued to see how they pitch (on the road) against Texas this weekend.

As a mid major lover, how many are viable host candidates? Coastal is obviously at the top of the list. High RPI teams like Cal Poly and McNeese State are interesting, but that’s bizarro world scenarios. Probably not enough Q1 opportunities left for those. DBU and UCI should get themselves into the convo as well.
Kendall Rogers
1:22
Coastal Carolina would top the list, and I actually think Cal Poly is in a solid spot right now depending on how the UCSB and UCI series go. I will say this, I think if CP wins that UCSB series, it could very well be playing UCI for a host site. UCI is 24 in the RPI, but sometimes those West Coast schools get a bit more leeway from the committee. I do think CP must win both of those series to have a chance to host.

I wasn't expecting big things from South Carolina this year, but I thought they would be a lot better than this.  Paul Mainieri seemed like an out of left field hire to me at the time.  Do you think he's a long-term solution in Columbia?  Not saying he should be fired because I don't think the team is very talented, but I'm not seeing it at this point.
Kendall Rogers
1:24
I don't want to be sour on any hire in April, but I was definitley a little more gun shy on the Mainieri hire than some because you were pulling someone out of retirement in the middle of an NIL heavy world that he didn't have to deal with (yet) during his time at LSU. Just seemed like a strange hire at the time, but Mainieri also is an excellent coach, so maybe it work? I'm not throwing in the towel on Paul just yet, but there's no doubt they shoudl be better .There's a serious talent issue in Columbia, too.

Does UTSA have an at-large bid locked up already?
Kendall Rogers
1:25
UTSA is in very very good shape right now with a 23 RPI and a dominant league record thus far. That's a scary, scary team, particularly offensively, in a regional, too.
Mike
1:26
What do you think of Xavier? Getting run ruled by top teams shouldn't carry your resume.
Kendall Rogers
1:26
Still a solid club for sure, but after getting swept by St. John's over the weekend, they will be facing an uphill battle the rest of the way. RPI is down to 30 and there are only landmines left on the schedule outside of a couple of midweek games and Creighton.

Is Mississippi State back in post season contention after taking 2 of 3 from Bama?
Kendall Rogers
1:29
I think I like MSU's chances of getting to 13 wins in the league, which would obviously put it in a great spot from an RPI standpoint. I think the Bulldogs will make the field, and are dangerous, IMO. Even that LSU series in BR was hard-fought for the most part. BTW .... since so many of your brethren love to talk hosting, all MSU must do is win out to be Top 16 in the RPI. sunglasses
Brendan
1:34
Assuming Iowa keeps up their pace, would a large quantity of wins be enough to combat their poor SOS and RPI at the ends of the season or will they need an autobid?
