Maybe 1995 Fullerton?

How do you rationalize jumping Texas State and Miami above ND after both teams began the week ranked lower than the Irish?  Comparatively, you would have to say ND had the most impressive weekend of the three considering they swept a top-5 team on the road, correct?

Guest -- Great question. The problem for the Irish is pretty clear -- there's not a lot of room to move when they just got swept by Louisville a couple of weeks ago. It would make zero sense to vault them ahead of the Cardinals, even if the Cards lost an ACC road series. Miami and Texas State have been ultra consistent.

Thoughts on Charlotte getting swept?

That one caught me by surprise, especially with the Niners playing well coming off that ODU series. I think you have to give UTSA credit, looks like the Roadrunners are much improved, and could be a viable C-USA contender. I'll get a look at Charlotte this weekend against Southern Miss, suddenly a huge series for Charlotte's at-large chances. I still love that Charlotte offense, and I love that Southern Miss pitching staff, so that will be a fascinating matchup of strength vs. strength. Niners definitely need to find some answers on the mound though, they gave up a bunch of runs this weekend.

How many bids do you think the big west will get? And who are the front runners to come out?
Kendall Rogers

Two? UCSB and UC Irvine are safe bets. Long Beach State could be a third.

Hey guys, love your site and all you do, what's Mercer's ceiling this year, and do they have a shot to get into the top 25 at some point down the road?
Kendall Rogers

Bears -- Mercer was right in the mix to be in the Top 25. As a matter of fact, I'd say they were the 26th or 27th team on our board. Really impressed with their overall consistency outside of that South Florida series. On a side note, check out that feature our Shotgun Spratling did on Jackson Kelley. It's on the site now.

Does Houston have to win the American to get to a regional this year? Their record is good, but schedule has been weak and American seems down this year too

Jeremy -- It's probably too early to say they'd need to win the automatic bid to get in, but with an RPI of 98, the Cougars definitely have a ton of work to do. Thankfully, no one in the American seems to be in position to run away with the league title, so there are plenty of opportunities on the board. I will likely see UH and Tulane at some point next week.
