The Sun Devils definitely have my attention after sweeping Arizona and beating GCU midweek. I was down on ASU after it got swept by Irvine, but credit Willie B and his club, they have really rallied over the last three weeks. Feels like a frisky bunch that does have legitimate talent, and I could see them making a real run at regionals. They were in the Top 25 discussion this week, yes.

How many combined SEC wins will the currently 0-6 teams have when the Rebels (@ Aggies, vs Hogs) and Dawgs (vs Cocks, @ Tide) meet in three weeks?
Aaron Fitt

I'll say 6. I think both clubs go 3-3 over the next two weeks.

What are your thoughts on Georgia Tech this year. They have won 2 ACC series but have a little suspect at times. Im not really sure what to think of this team. Thier bullpen is much improved over last year and they can hit.  I believe they are regional team, but a 2 seed at best. thoughts? Thanks

Yeah, feels like a regional 2 or 3 seed. They can hit like always, but I'm just skeptical of the pitching. But it does feel like the bullpen is better -- Terry Busse is really good!

Recent history shines on teams that have 1 starter who can dominate a post season and a big bullpen arm to count on. The top 4 all have those starters, but which has the best bullpen? I'll take Vandy with Nick Maldonado...
Aaron Fitt

Vandy with Maldonado back at peak form and a strong supporting case of Sam Hliboki/Bryce Cunningham/Thomas Schultz seems like a good choice. But don't sleep on the Deac bullpen led by Cam Minacci, Michael Massey, Cole Roland and Seth Keener. Wake is a really complete club too.

How do you see the WCC shaking out? Portland has stayed hot after the series win in College Station. LMU held the Vandy offense to 10 runs in three games and nearly took a series in Stillwater. Seems like 3-4 other teams should be in the mix as well.

Gosh, it feels like a free for all. Maybe Portland should be the favorite considering it won a series at A&M and has continued to take care of business since then, albeit against lesser competition. But I can't shake the Zags; they played a brutal nonconference schedule and took their lumps, but now we're into conference play and here they come, at 5-1 after two weeks. If I have to pick somebody who I think will be at the top by season's end, I think I still lean Gonzaga.

How many games is it going to take to win the SEC this year? I am thinking 22-24. And do you see the winner coming from the East or the West?
Aaron Fitt

It is so tough to get a handle on this league right now. Obviously there are six elite teams at the top with LSU, Vandy, Florida, Arkansas, South Carolina and Tennessee, and I don't know that I see any of those six running away with it -- surely they'll all beat up on each other some. And we've learned that Missouri and Kentucky won't be pushovers. Georgia, Ole Miss and Mississippi State are all off to rough starts, but I have to imagine they'll all play better and give people trouble. I think 20-21 wins ends up taking the SEC crown.

A little too much weight on this past weekend with regards to UL and UCLA? Could argue the Gamecocks and Vols still only have one quality weekend result, while the Bruins and Fighting McDonnells have multiple.

We did have this discussion in our meeting; I like what UCLA and Louisville have done, and would have been fine only dropping them a spot or two this week, but I also like what those others right behind them have done, and it felt like those teams were deserving of moving up a little more. Overall I actually think all of their resumés are fairly similar; UCLA's best weekends are at Oregon and vs. Arizona, both unranked teams. For example, South Carolina's best was a sweep of ranked Missouri, but I would argue its series wins at Georgia and vs. Clemson are comparable to the Oregon and Arizona series.

Every week I am more impressed with the work Campbell is doing.  They can swing it with anyone.  After Daquila / Kuehler who seem to be establishing themselves as the frontline starters; do you think they enough pitching overall to make a serious postseason run?

I was at Campbell's midweek win vs. ECU last weekend and liked what I saw from Hunter Loyd, he feels like a quality third starting piece, though they might like using him as a midweek weapon given the quality of their midweek opponents. But yes, Campbell is really good -- the offense is for real and I do believe their pitching staff is actually quite deep, as well as strong at the top end. Feels like a team that could win a regional.
