Yeah, I was really impressed with what I saw from the Va Tech pitching staff this weekend, because I'll admit that was an area of skepticism for me heading into it. Green and Hackenberg both compete and have stuff, and between Weycker, Firoved and Worley, I saw three guys with good stuff who all pitched very well this weekend in the pen. And they didn't even use a couple of their best bullpen arms. I wish they had somebody who could give them more innings as a starter on Sundays, but they might have enough in the bullpen to mix and match.

Three teams tied atop the Southland conference standings in McNeese, Nicholls & Houston Baptist. Thoughts on those three clubs headed into final two weekends of league play.

Will -- First of all, how about the job Mike Silva (Nicholls) and Lance Berkman (HBU) have done in their first seasons in the SLC? 11-7 at this point is pretty solid. My money, though, is on J-Hill and McNeese.

What's the differentiating factor between Stanford and Oregon? Oregon has won 5 of 7 Pac-12 series, boast a better overall and conference record, and has the head to head series win on the road. Oregon's conference series losses (UCLA and Washington St) are very comparable to Stanford's two other series losses (Arizona and Washington). Yet Stanford sits at 11th in the rankings and Oregon is out.

You make some good points here. I think Stanford leapt up there because the high end of its resumé stands out  more (road series wins at Oregon State and at UCLA), whereas Oregon has the one road series win at Stanford and that's about it. But ultimately they feel pretty close, and that is not reflected in the Top 25, so I think you're onto something here.

Thoughts on Texas A&M's or UCLA's chance to host?
Kendall Rogers
12:57
Feeling pretty dang good about the Aggies hosting right now. Both Schloss and Savage have done a terrific job this season. As for the Bruins -- the RPI is sitting at 42, so they have some serious work to do. I would say OSU, Oregon and Stanford are higher in the 'hosting' pecking order right now.

what Is the reasoning for the RPI difference between D1 baseball, Nolan, and the NCAA. Which one does the committee use when selecting teams?
Kendall Rogers
12:58
Reeves -- the NCAA is what the committee uses, but I will attest that I think ours is most accurate. For instance, Warren and the NCAA had some games inaccurately marked as neutral last week, whereas we had them marked accurately. They will all line up at some point.

Beaver fan here. This is the first year of the Pac-12 tournament and I don't see any benefit for OSU but I do see risk. OSU is probably safely in the post season and most likely a host for the regionals. There seems to be a great deal of risk to drop in the RPI or an injury to a key player. What says you?
Aaron Fitt

I think the committee has gotten pretty good at just treating conference tournaments as an extension of the regular season, and not placing excessive emphasis on it. If you win your regular-season title, chances are you won't fall out of a top eight spot even if you go winless at a conference tournament. So think of the conference tournament as a replacement for some non-conference weekend you'd have to play against likely some lesser opponent if you didn't have the conference tourney.

All right gang, that's all for me today. See you next week.

In general, felt like it was a pretty bad week for the top of the Sun Belt, no? Tx State took two of three. But Ga Southern lost two of three, and the Cajuns took two of three from App, but that one loss dropped their RPI 10 spots.
Kendall Rogers

James -- Not necessarily. Georgia Southern and Texas State are still solidly in the field, and I think the SBC will get a third bid. The question is who will it be? Coastal Carolina is on the up and up now after winning that series in Statesboro. Coastal's RPI is up to 60. Still work to do -- but trending up.

Is there any avenue for Tech to host, or are we destined for a 2/3 seed?
Kendall Rogers
1:01
Lubbock -- Destined for a two seed, I am afraid. Tech would need to roll the rest of the regular season and probably roll through the Big 12 tournament to host right now. Those bad midweek losses have been an absolute killer for this team.

If Florida wins their last 3 series to get to 500 in SEC Play are they safely in the NCAA Tournament?.
Kendall Rogers

Florida would be an absolute lock if it finished at .500. That would have the Gators' RPI in a very very good spot.

Losing 2 out of the 3 to Missouri definitely didn’t help their chances and with an RPI of 88 and having to play Florida, A&M and Tennessee left to finish SEC play do y’all think Mississippi State is messing with fire in order to make a regional?
Kendall Rogers
1:14
MSU is more than playing with fire -- its RPI is at 87 right now and it would have zero shot to make the tournament if the season ended today. I would say at minimum, State needs to win 2 of its final three series AND play very well in Hoover to make the field. That's the bare minimum.
