Jim -- great question. We are in the TrackMan era when it comes to strike zones. I think umpires have very tight zones, and when you have very tight windows to throw into, hitters know that. Combine that with a current ball that absolutely flies and it's the perfect storm for the offense ... and the pitching. That's what makes what guys like Hagen Smith are doing seem remarkable -- and Paul Skenes last year.

Did La Tech torpedo their at large chances this weekend?
Kendall Rogers
12:37
James -- Didn't torpedo because the Bulldogs have the same league record and the H2H with DBU, but with an RPI of 45 now, cannot afford another stinker weekend with series remaining against WKU and Liberty.

There is a lot of clamoring, amongst fans, for DVH to make a change at hitting coach at season's end. The hitting seems to be the one thing always dragging down elite pitching / fielding. Diggs has regressed. White, Wilmsmeyer, and Aloy are all hitting almost 100 points less than last year at different schools. Is it time for Arkansas to make a change?

I've seen way too much baseball to say someone should be fired, etc, at the beginning of May. Nate has a solid reputation in the industry, believe it or not. I'm a fan. But the fact is the offense is Arkansas' weak link right now. Outside of a couple of guys, there's not really anyone in that lineup that just scares the bejesus out of you right now. Compare that to Tennessee, A&M, or even Kentucky.

Thank you all for the best college baseball coverage anywhere ! In your opinion , what does Louisville have to do down this last stretch to put itself in a position for an at large bid ? Nice start this past weekend against BC with a road sweep which now puts them at 13-11 in ACC play . I am aware that RPI remains a problem , but more opportunities to improve with remaining  games against Vandy ,UNC ,Indiana . Also host ND at home to close season . Maybe they have also found an answer to Sunday starter , as Hartman was electric. Young guys in pen seem to be stepping up as well.

Louisville is definitely in a much better spot right now than it was a week ago. The Cards have some great RPI games remaining: 26, 6 (three times), 62, 52 (three times) -- only the UNC game is on the road. I say if Louisville goes 5-3 or 4-4, it makes the field. How's that? The conference tourney might also mean something for the Cards.

If Indiana goes 5-1 in their last 6 Big Ten Games and wins a few games in the Big Ten Tournament will that be enough for an at large bid?
Kendall Rogers
12:43
Indiana would easily be in if it does that ... imo.

What does ECU have to finish record wise in order to finish as a top 8 national seed? Will the committee take into consideration that the Pirates have been banged up down the stretch pitching wise?
Kendall Rogers
12:45
Win the final two series and play well in the conference tournament, and I'll be honest, I'm not sure how ECU could not be a top eight seed. It will have done everything you asked it to do as a committee -- including winning a series over North Carolina. I would be surprised if ECU as not a top 8 in that scenario.

At this point in the season what is the take for my Gamecocks? Do you like them to time their pitching and hitting well enough to make a run or no? They seem to enjoy making things way too interesting way too often.
Kendall Rogers
12:46
Gamecock -- they've certainly been an interesting team. That one thing I do really like about SC is that the offensive lineup really makes you work -- they don't seem to swing at a ton of garbage. I also think they've got some nice options on the mound. I particularly love the vibe with a guy like Ty Good.

Any thoughts on how NCAA should handle the programs/players who cheat - Specifically with regards to spider tack and bat tampering? Right now, the umps don't want to deal with it when opposing coaches point it out, but the programs who hold their players to high standards are at a competitive disadvantage. Checking pitchers like MLB, more authority to umps, harsher punishments for coaching staffs? It's getting bad in some programs and seems unlikely to correct itself.

I think the solution is that the NCAA, at the least, should check hands in the NCAA tournament. I get that it is difficult to throw that on the umpires in conference with everything else going on throughout the game, but I do think we need to ensure integrity in the postseason.

Chances we get two west coast hosts? I need some midnight regional baseball!

Those are the BEST, aren't they? I feel pretty good about UC Santa Barbara hosting for now -- and obviously Oregon State is in that mix, too.

Does Cal have a path for an at-large bid with a 58 RPI and two series left at home vs SJSU and UW? Even with winning those series, will they need to win a few in the PAC-12 tourney to have a shot?
Kendall Rogers
12:52
Cal absolutely has a shot. Win the final two series and play well in the conference tournament and I could definitely see the Golden Bears in the field. They'll be on our discussion board for bubble teams this week.

Cal Poly should be in the mix. RPI is a stupid metric. They have series wins over UCSB & UCI. Only series losses to Texas, Mizzou, Utah, & @ Hawaii. All early…excluding Hawaii, got walked off on twice. The 2 defeats vs UCI & UCSB were in extras. Really underrated team

Dunning -- Larry's club has definitely played much better over the past few weeks. They can really pitch. I love the fact they played a tough non-conference schedule, but unfortunately, you have to win some of those games. Interestingly, Cal Poly is 53 in the DSR (which would be bubble-wish) and is 80 in the RPI.
