I would say yes.

Would you say front offices have become too obsessed with prospects?
Dan Szymborski
12:56
No. They're a built-in market inefficiency - you get those beautiful cost-controlled years no matter how many people know about that as a strategy
Dan
12:57
So add 48 wins to whatever FanGraphs says under team fWAR projections, correct?
Dan Szymborski
12:57
I do my own projections and those are the ones that are canon.

So when an internet ad says, "I made $4,000 last month working from home" they mean "I made $4000 last month while not wearing pants"?
Dan Szymborski
12:58
I should note that when I say I'm not wearing pants, it means that I'm not wearing pants that I'd wear to go to an office, not that I'm sitting around naked from the waist down.
I like gym shorts.

Michael Cuddyer retired because he was tired of getting his feelings hurt when reading about himself on FanGraphs, probably.
Dan Szymborski
12:58
No

After reading Jose Canseco's Pro-Mars nuking tweets, is it fair to say he's positioning himself to play the next James Bond villain? Will the title be called MarsMaker?
Dan Szymborski
12:59
It's the combination of that and us transporting Triton to collide with mars that makes it funny. Melting their ice caps is an actual option, but it's funny coming from canseco
Plus when he talkeda bout the project and included "his calculations" in them

what do you think porcello will look like in 2016?
Dan Szymborski
1:00
I actually think he'll be fine.

over/under 90.5 wins for the cardinals next season?
Dan Szymborski
1:00
Under. Though I don't think you should write them off. I don't think i projected any of the NL Central teams to win 90 last year, though I may be wrong

if you could make one non-trivial rule change to baseball, what would it be?
Dan Szymborski

Automated ball/strikes

let's say you hop in a time machine and set it for yankee stadium, 2055. what's the craziest thing about the game you see?
Dan Szymborski
1:01
Bartolo Colon is still alive and pitching.
Too $hort
1:01
Do you ever bet on baseball? Do you think you could win?
Dan Szymborski
1:01
I bet plenty of baseball, but I'm not a compulsive gambler - I look for the best opportunities. I'm a prop bet guy.
The Cincinnati Kid

Which stat most projectable for hitters: HRs, RBIs, or AVG?
Dan Szymborski
1:01
HR
Kyler
1:01
How early can you start projecting players? I know that the earlier = more uncertainty but do you run projections on guys in the low minors or even college?
Dan Szymborski
1:02
I do not run guys from college or very low minors unless I'm forced to by the situation (like Weeks after being drafted)

szymborski is a guatemalan name right?
Dan Szymborski
1:02
Korean.

Is/should be the players union angry with Cuddyer for retiring with so much cash left on his contract? Seems like the sort of thing they'd discourage but I can't really articulate why.
Dan Szymborski
1:02
They'd like to discourage, but there's really not much they can do about it.

Is there a ZIPS schedule somewhere?
Dan Szymborski
1:03
Not for anyone but me!

1:03
Did any of the Rule 5 picks surprise or impress you?
Dan Szymborski
1:04
Nothing really surprising - teams are way less stupid in using their 40-man roster for this than they used to be
Dan
1:04
In what order are ZiPS ran?
Dan Szymborski
1:04
I start with the first team to be projected and finish with the last one.
I tried to start with the last team to be projected, but it resulted in a causality loop that caused the Boer War, so I don't do that now

It would totally be a Dave Stewart thing to sign Dan Szymborski to a retainer for unlimited ZiPS and then not use them.
zips
1:05
is zips something you could sell to like, microsoft, for data mining or is it really just useful for baseball/what you intended?
