According to FanGraphs, in 2016 Ryan Howard's offense is rated -10.9 and his defense is rated -6.7. Does this mean that he actually has had more (i.e., less negative) value as a defensive replacement than a hitter?!?!?

This has probably been covered, but doesn't bullpen deployment affect run differential? You're likely to use your best during tight games, and your worst during blowouts (winning or losing).

It makes sense on the surface, but bullpen quality actually has very low correlation with record in close games.

The matchups are made by their version of Elo, not card quality typically. And at this point, lots of people have most of the classic set.
