Seeing as so many relief pitchers have ended up being pretty cheap, do you think the Cubs regret the Wade Davis trade a bit?
Dave Cameron
12:15
No. They had no role for Soler.

Does Carson plan to have a podcast guest besides Travis Sawchick anytime soon at travissawchick.com?
Dave Cameron
12:16
I recorded a podcast with him yesterday.
The one we did last week got canned because the audio quality was apparently terrible.

What would a Roberson trade to nationals look like? What type of prospects coming back?
Dave Cameron
12:16
Salary dump.

Dave, are you going to do the Position Power Rankings this year? If so, when can we expect to start seeing them? They are great, BTW!
Dave Cameron
12:17
Those run the last two weeks of spring training, so we have as accurate a read on every team's depth charts as we can get.

I know it's not the STL way to panic & trade, but would a McCarthy or Brock Stewart be feasible for the Cards in a trade, or would LA say no way, take a hike?
Dave Cameron
12:18
Don't think STL has much to benefit from that kind of deal. With Wacha and Weaver around, they have back-end options. If they're going to make a deal, it should be for a frontline guy.

I know you're down on Wood and they're competing with 29 other clubs, but it feels odd given this market and their need that the O's didn't pick up a 5th starter of some kind. (And now Tillman is out for a stretch.) My paranoid side is feeling like the O's are going to tank in order to force a rebuild, but that's not real, right? Do I need to get a tinfoil hat?
Dave Cameron
12:20
I wouldn't be surprised if BAL made a few moves this spring.
That roster doesn't feel done.

When will Zips projections be up? If you don't have an exact date, a rough time frame would do. Later this week? Before March?
Dave Cameron
12:20
They usually go up around the end of February.

Give me a conceivable way the Cubs could miss the playoffs.
Dave Cameron
12:21
Arrieta's arm goes boom, Bryant's strikeouts come back in a big way, Schwarber proves he can't play LF and so they don't have anywhere to put him...
12:22
But, yeah, mostly health stuff.
They don't have the pitching depth to withstand a bunch of their SPs going down.
Q-Ball
12:23
What team that thinks they are a contender will have the worst season, in your opinion? BAL, DET, or TEX? Or someone else?
Dave Cameron
12:23
BAL

Better genre of "early days of spring training" story: previously fat guy shows up looking thinner, or previously athletic guy shows up looking fat?
Dave Cameron
12:24
The latter.

Dave, do you sometimes have a hard time caring about baseball when national news is like it is? I want more than anything to lose myself in the coming season, to obsess about every plate appearance and give my brain some respite from what ails it. But I'm also afraid that everything that has developed outside of it will sap some of the joy of the game. Basically, I just want to know if this is something you guys are struggling with as well, and how you manage it.
Dave Cameron
12:27
I've been working on a post for a while about this, and yeah, it's something I'm trying to work through. It's easy to say baseball isn't really important compared to what else is happening, but there's also a reality that people do need escapes. It's a complex topic, and why I haven't hit publish on the post yet.

12:27
How much does the Adam Lind signing help the Nats' depth problem that you identified recently?
Dave Cameron
12:27
Well he's a lot better than Clint Robinson, so that helps.
12:28
But ideally they needed a 1B/LF so that they had depth behind Werth too, and Lind isn't that.
So he helps, but that bench is still bad.

Who is the second best team in the AL Central? Seems like after CLE, there is a giant dropoff and lots of question marks. Will anyone in the ALC give CLE any kind of challenge?
Dave Cameron
12:29
I'll take DET out of the next group.
El Duderino
12:30
Would you have a team full of Kiermiers or a team full of Nelson Cruzs (Elite defenders with avg bats, or Elite Bats with bad D)
Dave Cameron
12:30
You'd win a lot more games with the Keiermaiers.
Sterling Mallory Chris Archer

When do you think the WBC should be played? As it is now or in the summer? I personally think the summer and that the whole "injury risk" thing is overblown. Soccer and hockey play tourneys mid year, it's sports, injuries happen.
Dave Cameron
12:30
I'd still use it to replace the All-Star Game, and have it be a one week mid-season tournament.

Why do players that have terrible years get raises in arbitration?
Dave Cameron
12:31
Because the pay scale is more about service time.

Does the Reyes injury kick the Cardinals into full rebuild mode if they are not contending pretty much immediately?
Dave Cameron
12:31
No, definitely not. They're still a win-now team.
