Don't think STL has much to benefit from that kind of deal. With Wacha and Weaver around, they have back-end options. If they're going to make a deal, it should be for a frontline guy.

I know you're down on Wood and they're competing with 29 other clubs, but it feels odd given this market and their need that the O's didn't pick up a 5th starter of some kind. (And now Tillman is out for a stretch.) My paranoid side is feeling like the O's are going to tank in order to force a rebuild, but that's not real, right? Do I need to get a tinfoil hat?

Dave, do you sometimes have a hard time caring about baseball when national news is like it is? I want more than anything to lose myself in the coming season, to obsess about every plate appearance and give my brain some respite from what ails it. But I'm also afraid that everything that has developed outside of it will sap some of the joy of the game. Basically, I just want to know if this is something you guys are struggling with as well, and how you manage it.

I've been working on a post for a while about this, and yeah, it's something I'm trying to work through. It's easy to say baseball isn't really important compared to what else is happening, but there's also a reality that people do need escapes. It's a complex topic, and why I haven't hit publish on the post yet.

Well he's a lot better than Clint Robinson, so that helps.

But ideally they needed a 1B/LF so that they had depth behind Werth too, and Lind isn't that.
So he helps, but that bench is still bad.

Who is the second best team in the AL Central? Seems like after CLE, there is a giant dropoff and lots of question marks. Will anyone in the ALC give CLE any kind of challenge?

When do you think the WBC should be played? As it is now or in the summer? I personally think the summer and that the whole "injury risk" thing is overblown. Soccer and hockey play tourneys mid year, it's sports, injuries happen.
