Someone brought up a TOR-STL trade at the deadline and I thought it was interesting. But the Jays seem to show no real intention of moving him.

Did the Twins win the wild card, or did every single other ok-not-good team in the AL lose their way into a losing record?
Dave Cameron
12:17
Both

Mike Trout has never finished below 2nd in the MVP.  He's always gotten at least five 1st place votes.  I'm pretty sure the first one is ending this year, what about the second?
Dave Cameron
12:18
Yeah, I don't think he'll get any first place votes this year
Xolo
12:18
Do you think a Twins World Series victory would be good or bad for baseball?
Dave Cameron
12:18
Was the Royals WS good or bad for baseball? They're basically the same team, same kind of market size.
12:19
It's good that the playoffs are unpredictable. Do you want the worst team in the postseason winning that often? No. Ever? Yes.
Raindog
12:19
If your list of starters under contract for next season was Bundy, Gausman, convertedreliever, hahaha, and ohdear, might you actually consider paying Wade Miley $11.5M to soak up 150 innings?
Dave Cameron
12:19
No.

If the Reds are going to be at all competitive in the next few years, what part of their current team is going to form the backbone of their hypothetical ascent?
Dave Cameron
12:21
The young hitters. If Winker turns into a stud, Suarez maintains a +4 WAR level, Senzel becomes an impact 2B, then all of the sudden you've got something.
Larkin
12:22
Is Brandon Nimmo kind of really interesting? 1.3 WAR and 127 WRC+ across  200 PA this year and was on both versions of KATOH top 100. O-Swing of 16%
Dave Cameron
12:22
He's the kind of guy the ball helps the most. These fringe power guys are playing up because the ball is traveling better.

Do you think it's a good call for Cleveland to put Clevenger in the bullpen and install Tomlin as the #4 starter?  Maybe the logic is that he'd log more innings as a long reliever in the playoffs than a 4th starter would, but I'm still not sure what to think of the decision.
Dave Cameron
12:23
If you're not planning on your #4 going more than 3-4 innings in that one start per series, then yeah, Clevinger is more valuable as an RP.

if a player retires due to injury like Prince Fielder do they still get the remainder of their contract? Does some insurance policy kick in for the club? Asking for a friend...
Dave Cameron
12:24
Fielder isn't officially retired, because that way he still gets paid.
If he retired, he'd give up the salary.

What will the Royals do this offseason?  What should they do?
Dave Cameron
12:25
Sounds like they're going to try to keep one of their FAs, then try to keep winning. They should blow it up and start over.

Let's ignore the playoff odds page for a moment.  What % chance to you personally give the Cubs to repeat?
Dave Cameron
12:25
10%?
David

Could a team promise Shohei that they would just release him after 2 years. Would that make him a normal free agent? He still gets his payday at age 25, but gets to come over now.
Dave Cameron
12:25
No, MLB won't allow any alterations to the Uniform Player Contract
Moltar
12:26
MLB is still committed to daytime weekday postseason games, right? For desk jockeys like me this just seams insane. Why would the league not want the most important games of the season accessible to the largest number of people? Don't they want casual fans tuning in to these games?
Dave Cameron
12:26
When you have 4 games a day, only way to not have them compete with each other is to have day games
12:27
And the broadcast partners are paying a lot of money for the TV rights, so they don't want people switching between games.

I forget the rule but can the WC roster differ from the DS roster? Would it make sense to go heavy on the bullpen and lighter on the bench for a one game match?
Dave Cameron
12:27
Yes, you can set a WC specific roster.
12:28
So most teams only carry 9-10 pitchers.
With just the one starter, a full bullpen, and then one extra SP as the long guy.
David
12:28
What would the penalty be if MLB discovered an "under the table" deal with Ohtani? Would it still be worth signing him initially?
Dave Cameron
12:29
I'm sure the league will try to make it known that the team who makes that deal won't benefit from it. The trick is that if you void the contract and make Ohtani an FA, then *he* benefits from making that deal and leaking the details of it. Lots of moral hazards on this one.

Now that we seen the best and worst of Judge in a 13 month span (twice), any expectations for what his baseline will be?
Dave Cameron
12:30
Stanton with more walks.
A top-3 MLB hitter, basically.
Troutmaggedon
12:30
If you were building a team would you rather have Bellinger or Judge going forward?
Dave Cameron
12:31
Judge

How much will Harper's propensity for getting hurt cost him in free agency? If the Yankees offered him, say, $350M over ten years, no opt-outs, does that get it done?
