Not Sean, but all stats are flawed in that they all need context. We would probably all be better off focusing on what a stat does and not what it doesn't do.

It's so weird that Daniel Murphy just flipped the switch in the second half of last season and is legit one of the best hitters in MLB now.

It's more the interpretation is flawed, not the stat itself. Plus any stat or metric is a tool to help you understand the game or make a decision if you are a team, player or have a fantasy team. WAR certainly isn't perfect, but it helps you frame the overall value of the player, which I think is important to understand the game.

But Sean, there is more to understanding the game than just 'value'. That's why initially stating a player's WAR is fine but is not nearly enough. Fans want to know who a player 'is', not just a number. Saying Adam Dunn and Ichiro have the same WAR is meaningless.
