It wouldn't amount to much, but I know what you mean. I don't think they'll do that, though. They didn't even suspend him, they just did not play him.

Ed - why does AB seem to think he has a say in where he gets traded?  He goes to where we trade him to and does not much have much of a choice.  Am I missing something?

Why cant the Steelers recreate the magic of a good second tier free agent like James Farrior or Jeff Hartings? Recent FAs havent really made a splash.

Not counting Joe Haden, of course. Villanueva also was a free agent, just not much wanted by anyone and few saw him as a OT like the Steelers.

Yes, I do, but it depends on what reasonable is. He's the No. 2 tight end so you're not going to want to pay him much.

I would be surprised if they pay Dupree $9.2 million this year. I've written that they could try to negotiate a multi-year deal worth much less per year

Ed, congrats on your article, a week or so ago, when you pointed out that the Steelers won't get hit with a $22 mil hit if they trade AB, because they won't have to pay his $2.5 mil bonus and his $12 mil salary.  Others in the Burgh keep mentioning the $22 mil hit.

It'll be $21 million and that will be the number next to his name under the Steelers salary cap if they trade him. It won't officially take into account the $15.1 million they won't have to pay. Plus, they would be charged nothing on their cap for him in future years.

I don't know why you'd compound your cap hit by paying the $2.5 M, and don't see any advantage to wait until the draft. You can get a deal now with a team and wait until March 13 to make it official.
