I saw great potential in him at camp and in the preseason. He started coming on toward the end of last season, so yes.

If J James leaves in FA, will they look to the draft or a FA tight end?
Ed Bouchette
2:30
They have Vance McDonald as No. 1 anyway so I'd say they probably would draft one. A top-flight tight end won't come here to be No. 2 as a FA

Hi Ed.  HUGE fan of your work forever!  Glad to finally say "hi".  I think this draft is make or break-no more reaches, especially on Round 1.   And time for an impact FA!  Thanks, keep up the good work!  Dan

I think they'll be on the lookout to bring in a free agent or two. Remember that they offered Hightower a few years ago big money but he re-signed with Patriots -- and that's when Ryan Shazier was still healthy.

Have you had any interactions with Polamalu in his new role with the AAF?
Ed Bouchette
2:32
No, I have not. Neither have the Steelers. He is eligible for the first time for the Hall of Fame voting this year, by the way.

Hi Ed - do you have any insight into who the 5 teams that contacted the Steelers about AB are?
Ed Bouchette
2:32
No, and I have not seen anything anywhere detailing them.

Better wr duo: Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes or Antonio Brown and JuJu?
Ed Bouchette

Super  Bowls for the former, so I'll go there.

Do you think the Steelers will resign L.T. Walton and/or McCullers? Or will they look to free agency and the draft for depth?
Ed Bouchette
2:34
I think the McCullers experiment has played out. They re-signed Alualu as No. 3 defensive end. I don't see what Walton has really contributed so I think they'll go elsewhere. Some good defensive linemen in this draft.

Did Shazier’s contract toll for 2019?  If so, what is the cap hit?  I saw on one site the hit was nearly $9M and the Steelers only had about $10M in cap space.  I think that is wrong since his “salary” in 2018 was only about $800K after they turned the rest into a bonus.
Ed Bouchette

Yes, it tolls. I think it will be relatively cheap because they restructured his deal to put most of that money in a signing bonus last year.

Thank you for another great chat. See you next Tuesday
