They wouldn't owe him any real money, but he would cost them $4.8 M against their cap next year. However, they also would save a $2 million roster bonus in 2019 and $1 M in 2020 plus his salaries of $1 M next season and up to $3.2 million in 2022

Odds of Boswell winning the kicking competition?
Ed Bouchette
2:20
If Boswell had not done what he did last season, had not received the big payday, he'd have been long gone
Markieburgh
2:20
Has this O line been reading its own headlines, if they’re so outstanding shouldn’t just about anybody be able to run for 3-5 yards behind them? The run game stinks and not being able to run clock has hurt badly?
Ed Bouchette
2:20
No, not just anybody can run.
Doug
2:20
How may points do we nee Sunday
Ed Bouchette
2:21
80?

Ed, is it possible that the Steelers could bring in a kicker to finish out the season, and let Boz get his head together for next year?
Ed Bouchette
2:22
Only way to do that would be to carry 2 kickers on their 53-man roster, which they won't do, or put him on IR with some kind of "injury".  since he has a $2 M roster bonus due I assume in March, better decide before then.

The defense needs to be overhauled, it just isn’t working, I said it possible to switch to 4-3 next year since we will be going home early this year, more time to prep
Ed Bouchette
2:22
So switching to a 4-3 defense is the magic pill?
Steelman
2:23
Ed do you get offended by the blaten lies from Tomlin from his press conferences, today’s in particular? 2 days to come up with that excuse about Ben was disgusting
Ed Bouchette
2:23
Except, it pretty much was true.
Chad Reilly
2:23
Hi Ed.  Who on the offensive has been the most disappointing this year?
Ed Bouchette
2:24
You mean besides Le'Veon Bell? I'd say James Washington  but he's a rookie that too much was expected from.
Budge Rufkin
2:24
Yes Boswell has been bad, but are there really any good options out there for a replacement kicker?
Ed Bouchette
2:25
There did not seem to be any good ones when they signed Boswell or when they signed Jeff Reed or Suisham, all during the season. They turned out OK, to a point.
Or, should I say, missing a point

Ed, I have been a Steelers fan for 46 years, but these last few years under Tomlin are driving me crazy. The games are not enjoyable anymore.  This team has too much talent and the window is closing quickly.  I can understand why Rocky Bleier is done.  I kinda feel that way too.
Ed Bouchette
2:26
Imagine if you were fans of the Cleveland Browns or Buffalo Bills or Jacksonville Jaguars or even, yes, the Chargers who have done little with a great QB.
Markieburgh
2:27
Thanks Ed, will the new kicker play corner aslo? How about ILB or get a sack? Boz actually but 7 on the board against the chargers! That's a lot more than I can say for many of the 52 other guys?
Ed Bouchette
2:27
That's his JOB.  It's his only job, other than the meaningless kickoffs, and he's done it poorly. It's not David DeCastro's job to score.

The cynici in me connects Rocky’s Facebook post with his book release this week?
Ed Bouchette
2:28
You and others have mentioned that. I can't imagine Rocky needs the pub to sell his book. But then I was surprised by his statement.

Ed your odds that we have 2 kickers on Sunday roster?
Ed Bouchette
2:28
0
Mark
2:28
Is it even a thought that Tomlin is on the hot Seat?
Ed Bouchette
2:29
If you've followed the Steelers very long, you'd know that answer is no.
Steve
2:29
Good afternoon Ed. If the Steelers fail to make the playoffs where you would rank it in terms of collapses since you have been covering the team?
Ed Bouchette
2:31
The one in 2012, most recently, was equal or worse. They were 6-3, having won four in a row. They then lost five of their final six before a meaningless win vs. Cleveland to finish 8-8.
2:32
And In 2009, they were 6-2 before losing five in a row and finished 9-7 and out of the playoffs
2:34
Also look up Bill Cowher's teams in 1998 and 1999 when they lost their final five games in '98 to go 7-9 and 7 of their final 8 in '99 to go 6-10.

Ed thanks for the chats...We all know Bozwell has not had his best year, but why does he get the blame for a blocked FG and poor field conditions.  Its the same area of the field that Switzer had a issue.
Ed Bouchette
2:36
That wasn't a blocked FG so much as he slipped and kicked it into a block. He also missed from 39 and clanged one off the post that somehow took a lucky bounce through the uprights. He might be spared if it was just one bad day, but he's had many
Thank you for another great chat. See you next week.
