I think they are contenders before all that.

With the free agent signings of a ILB, a CB, and a WR, arguably the Steelers three biggest needs. Do the Steelers draft best available player with their first round selection, or do they double up on one of those positions?
Ed Bouchette
2:12
They could still go 1-2-3 at those spots in any order. And don't forget OLB
Stillerfan
2:12
Are you surprised that the AAF is folding so fast?
Ed Bouchette
2:14
I'm never surprised because every rival or alternative league since the AFL in the early 1960s has folded. This one was faster than the others but when people don't watch, you've lost any chance of staying around. Next Up: XFL 2

Can they really be counting on James Washington this year? He showed next to nothing once the real games started.
Ed Bouchette
2:14
I remember others who showed little as rookies too who were higher picks, like Troy Polamalu. Washingon came on toward the end and I think he'll still be a good one.

Did Colbert botch getting any value for Burnett by admitting they would cut him?  Certainly not as serious as the negligence in getting value for AB, but not a great idea to make the same mistake twice in the same offseason.
Ed Bouchette
2:15
I never thought anyone would have traded for him. The Steelers did him a favor that, if I were in charge, would not have done. I'd have made him wait until after the draft and just before the first OTA to cut him.

Will the Steelers realistically be able to move up in the draft to select a player such as Bush who seems to fit their greatest need?
Ed Bouchette
2:16
Only if they want to give away the farm, and I think that would be a mistake.
Mr big Question
2:16
Switzer or Eli. I would rather have Switzer but Eli just signed. What day y
Ed Bouchette
2:16
I think both make the team.
Lloyd's 3-Count

When's the last time you remember the Steelers being this under the cap prior to the draft?
Ed Bouchette
2:17
1992, but then there was no cap.

I very much enjoy your chat's.The Steelers are America's team and I'm glad the cancers have been removed and we can get back to football. Any chance you can help me get tickets to a game this season.
Ed Bouchette
2:18
You can always get tickets. Go on their website and buy them from others selling, or do it the old fashioned way and deal with the fellows on the street outside the park.

Is there any offseason move the Steelers did make that surprised you, aside perhaps frm Dupree getting his 9 mil?
Ed Bouchette
2:20
I thought they'd bring back Anthony Chickillo but I was a bit surprised they paid him $8 M over 2 years. I thought there was a chance they'd re-sign Ramon Foster but that surprised some. That Ben is not yet have a new contract surprises me a little.
Brett
2:21
Do you think the Steelers are done making moves in Free Agency this year?
Ed Bouchette
2:21
For the most part. No more big signings, but then we thought that in 2018 when  Joe Haden fell into their laps just before the start of the season.

Hi Ed - can Mark Barron cover  as 3 down ILB if they cannot get one in the draft?
Ed Bouchette
2:22
They believe he can. He's a former safety
Brett
2:22
Where do you see Mark Barron fitting into Keith Butler's plans this year?   More LB or S?
Ed Bouchette
2:23
Linebacker, but that's become kind of a transitional position, almost like LB/S. Maybe they can label him the monster back
Bubby Brister
2:23
How do the two back up QB’s look? Are they around a lot? Are they as funny as I was in the 80’s?
Ed Bouchette
2:24
Steelers cannot work out yet, and won't be on the field until May

Do all NFL cities major newspapers engage in this buffoonery that we call “ mock drafts”?   If I was told to do this I’d hand the editor a bucket of sand and a mallet.
Ed Bouchette
2:25
And he would hand you the Robert Morris beat. It's not just newspapers that pick them. EVERYONE does. I've always held out until the last day or day before when I pick my one and only mock. And I went a few years without picking one before my then-boss noticed and ordered me to start doing it again.
Lloyd's 3-Count

Considering how Boswell's contract is structured, I can't see why they'd cut him. Even if they only used him for kickoffs since McCrane doesn't have the strongest leg, they still have two kickers under contract.
Ed Bouchette
2:26
And taking up two roster spots! No, they'll go with one kicker, whoever that is.
Stillerfan
2:27
Other than Ben who's next in line for a big pay day?  Connor, Juju, Watt, Filer?
Ed Bouchette
2:28
None of the first three, they all have two years  left, maybe 3 for Watt.  I could see Feiler. Joe Haden would be my No. 1. Sean Davis maybe.
JerseySteel
2:28
Hi Ed - do the Steelers take a step back this season without AB's production or keep on cruising?
Ed Bouchette
2:28
They did not exactly cruise last season.

If Artie has bruised ego or lacks confidence, isn’t there somebody the Steelers can send him to, so it gets figured out?
Ed Bouchette
2:29
You mean, like the Raiders?
Kris
2:29
Will this finally be the year we stop playing down to our competition? I would hope you know the game of football enough to realize this has been a trend for the Steelers for quite some time now.
Ed Bouchette
2:29
Actually, this is the first time I've heard this theory.

Opinion on the new draft hats for the Steelers?
