Seems like we loaded up at safety in the offseason when we needed to load up at LB (ILB & OLB). Any idea why? Not the talent available?

The way things broke in the draft, it would not have made good sense drafting a linebacker just to draft a linebacker. That said, they needed to fill that hole and they did not do it.

No, just that initial report, which said the Raiders were bracing for possible suspension. Nothing since.

If you are looking for outside help at this point, you're in trouble. It's not every day that a Joe Haden falls into your lap at the end of training camp

Only two possibilities -- whether his signing bonus is all paid now vs. spread out over some years, and whether the Steelers insist on an "offset,'' which means if he is cut in the future, his guaranteed money from the Steelers is offset by an amount another team is willing to pay him. Look at Joey Bosa's contract haggling with San Diego in 2016, although this should not compare because Edmunds wasn't drafted high.
