Any more insight on Joey Votto's struggles?
Eno Sarris
12:29
Still struggling a little bit on inside pitch, but by launch angle and exit velo, still same guy. "Should" have a .330 BABIP

Eno, is there a less informative source of advice for lineup construction than Yahoo's "Matchup Rating"? You get advice based on small-sample gobbledygook like "5 stars: Batting .444 in his last 3 games against soft-tossing lefties." Barf. This could be so useful if done right. I'm looking at you, Rotographs!

hey Eno, would you buy/sell on Joe Ross? Everyone jumped on the bandwagon after the hot start but now after 2 lackluster outings?
Eno Sarris
12:31
Don't like his K-BB in those starts, but I still feel about the same as I did before: good 2/3 type until he starts to get injured like brother.

What SP can I possibly trade Heyward for? Or should I just hold? honestly I would rather have an SP or the roster spot...
Eno Sarris
12:35
He's so weird. His swing rates are pristine. Like almost Joey Votto level. Doesn't swing at bad pitches, makes a ton of contact, knows what he's doing. But the quality of balls in play is just mediocre. May just hit another 10 homers and steal another 15 with a meh batting average. I'd trade that for pitchers better than Odorizzi, Chen, probably.

Kela going to give Dyson any troubles when he comes back?
Eno Sarris
12:35
no, Bush is next in line.

Modern Day Warrior IPA from Cellarmaker was maybe the best I have had from them. So freaking good.
Eno Sarris
12:35
Gonna have to go see if they'll fill my pressurized growler.

When a catcher calls for a fastball, does he call specifically for a 2 or 4 seamer, or does the pitcher make the decision based on location of the pitch?
Eno Sarris
12:36
Good question. There usually is a universal sign for the fastball, I bet it's on the pitcher.

What are the chances that Jeffress keeps a closer job, assuming he's traded? Most contenders that would trade for him likely already have a closer in place, no?
Eno Sarris
12:36
Traded? Traded into setup.

Seems like every knuckleballer failed as a conventional pitcher in the low-mid minors. What percentage of pitchers who never make the majors do you think fooled around with a knuckleball for at least a month or two before deciding to retire? On the other hand, why don't we see more pitchers drafted as knuckleballers? Wouldn't they have an edge if they've been throwing the pitch since age 15 vs. those who pick it up at age 25?
Eno Sarris
12:37
99% of pitchers have fiddled with a knuckleball. The path from the bullpen pitch to on the mound in a game is long. Tai Walker says his slider has depth in the bullpens...

Is there anything more disingenuous in baseball than the excuses GMs give to justify holding prospects down when we all know it’s the Super Two? If Jameson Taillon tossed a no-hitter today and K’d 17 in the process, I’m fairly confident Neal Huntington would say something like “we’re obviously pleased with the results, but we really want to see him work on inducing more weak contact.” It’s to a point where something has to happen in the next CBA, right?

The magical June callup period is not actually so magical when you think about it.

How worried are you about Corbin?
Eno Sarris
12:38
Throwing a bad pitch more often. Knew that change was bad, but thought he could get by without it.

what to do with jake odorizzi? is he a streamer at this point or am i holding? i have arrieta, thor, and sale // rondon, jepsen, dyson (thanks eno!) in a deep h2h. should i ditch odorizzi for a rate guy/potential closer or keep him around for extra innings when i need them?
Eno Sarris
12:39
He still doesn't have a good breaker. I'd just keep him away from homer parks.

Any strong Mychal Givens opinions? He has great stuff but seems to give up a lot of hits. What's his ultimate role?
Eno Sarris
12:40
Deception guy but one with a good fastball. I like him.

What do you think about shortening MLB games to 7 innings?
Eno Sarris
12:40
do. not. like.

Thoughts on Clevinger's debut?
Eno Sarris
12:42
Not a ton of horizontal movement, so he's going to have to do it on command and strikeouts. Like, don't love.

Everyone talks about Teheran and Inciarte as trade targets from the Braves...Isn't Vizcaino the guy they should trade? What type of return could he command?
Eno Sarris
12:42
that's the problem, he doesn't get the same return. Not with his injury history.

After facing Syndergarrd two nights ago, the Nationals had Colon last night. The Nats announcers pointed out how slow 90 must look after facing 100, and that makes some sense based on my long-ago baseball experience, but do hitters or pitchers have any real difference in expected outcome based on the previous pitcher? Would it make any sense to try to follow a junkballer with a high heat guy or vice versa?
Eno Sarris
12:43
There's evidence of this but only in-game and only established with regards to the knuckleball.
Spaceman Spiff
12:43
Would KPU-BB% be a good way to plumb a batters floor?
Eno Sarris
12:44
yeah that's not bad. The guys that make it despite a bad number there just hit the snot out of the ball and are precious jewels that aren't really ones you should seek out since they 'hit' so regularly.

Do you agree with Mike Podhorzer that Yordano Ventura is a sell low and would it be reasonable to sell him for McCullers or Gausman?
