Is the Giants window maybe 1 year two tops to when another world series ?aren't they getting close to being in a postion the blue jays are now or even worse the shape the Tigers currently are bloated payroll and need everything to go perfectly to have a shot ?

I said they were a year closer to disaster than people thought and got a lot of blowback. And maybe I shouldn't have used that term, but everyone is post-peak and locked into long-term contracts, which is a tough spot. Look at what they're saying now -- they're in the lux tax and can't afford to add salary, but they already have a hole in the outfield. And nobody is taking any of their bad money back, so they're stuck. Already stuck. And no hot young prospects to provide upside beyond last year.

A team with that park and that ownership and front office should be fine in bad years, so disaster is wrong word. But mediocrity could be closer than it seems.

Why have I not seen the Dodgers-looking-for-a-second-baseman rumors and the Phillies-shopping-Cesar-Hernandez rumors link up? Seems as though Dozier is the only one linked to the Dodgers so far. Could you see a fit between the Dodgers and Phillies there?

Hernandez is evaluated very differently across the game, depending on how much you're worried about his baseball IQ and his batting average on balls in play. I think he's probably a league average guy, so they should be linked, but it always depends on what the Phils want.

There's been a lot out there about the White Sox not needing to flip Quintana now. Aside from the obvious reason of capitalizing on the dearth of pitching options in FA this offseason, it seems the time to deal Q is now given that extra year of value on his deal. In other words, Q does nothing for Hahn by pitching this year for them except diminish his value. Do you agree?

You have to balance against the idea that many of the guys you brought back are going to be in the big leagues next year, Q has more years than Sale did on the contract, and that deadline trades generally get you more back.. wouldn't be surprised if they keep him.
