Verlander's stuff was closer to his real stuff than Felix's is right now. I don't see much better, honestly.

What corner infielder fits the Rays best for 1B, assuming Miller shifts to second?
Eno Sarris
12:26
It's not Franklin at second?
12:27
speaking of poop, this is good poop
Aledmys Diaz
12:27
Am I good?
Eno Sarris
12:27
Offensively.

How regains more of their 2015 value this year, Heyward or Harper?
Eno Sarris
12:27
Harper gonna ball.
Maxamuz
12:27
Not very high on Bregman eh? Any reasons?
Eno Sarris
12:28
Oh I read that wrong. You are going to regret it v much.

What beer goes best with a lude?
Eno Sarris
12:28
Something you can pound because these interludes are short.

The fact that Fangraphs has the projected wins for the LAD to exceed the World Champs is absurd. I've talked to many people and not one even hesitated when asked which of these two teams will win more games this season. What say you?
Eno Sarris

Look at how the depth charts work. We slot guys in and give them time based on their quality and a guess at how healthy they will be. The Cubs have no starting pitching depth. The Dodgers have ten starting pitchers. Teams use ten starting pitchers on average in a given year. Who do the Cubs have between Anderson and the tenth slot? It won't matter if there horses are healthy, and then it'll look bad. But going into the year you have to guess that every team is going to work like the average team has worked in the past.

Who has a better shot at the playoffs in 2018, the Braves or the Phillies? And which team will be better once both young cores have fully developed?
Eno Sarris
12:31
Phillies closer to contention, and I'll take their guys that are close now. Braves have to have some lower minors / younger minors guys *hit* and I'm generally skeptical of those players until I see something in Double-A.

First, thanks for the Arizona Wilderness rec. yummy. Second, if the offer was really only De Leon, would you have traded Dozier?
Eno Sarris
12:31
No, I don't think I would have.
Matt
12:31
Can Nola slot in as a #3 fantasy pitcher?
Eno Sarris
12:31
yes.
Chris Bosio
12:31
Who's going to be my 5th starter? Montgomery or Anderson?
Eno Sarris
12:31
Montgomery
12:32
unless they going to play some game with innings and starts, since neither is good for 200.

Kevin Maitan is already showing up in top 50 prospect lists without playing a single inning of professional baseball. Am I wrong in thinking this feels premature?
Eno Sarris
12:32
Most prospect lists are about upside and future projection. Okay, all, at least now.

My daughters home sick. But she's not acting sick and could have gone to school. Is it possible I just wanted to skip out on work (she's only in pre-school so it's not that big a deal)
Eno Sarris
12:33
In that case, I'm normally like GO TO SCHOOL I NEED A REST
Joe

I'm going to tell you a few facts about a pitcher. He had a CSAA of 1.5% in 2016, to go along with a DRA of 3.93. He has a change-up that looks almost exactly like Chris Devenski's in shape and velocity, and he had an 18% whiff rate with the pitch last year. Overall, he had a SwStr% of 9.7% last year. He's 24 years old, Okay. That pitcher is John Gant. Are you surprised?
Eno Sarris
12:34
Not super surprised since I did that piece on finding the next Hendricks and Gant showed up. I'd be interested in defining that shape and velocity against the fastball and seeing if that changed things, but Gant obviously has something going for him. Good command with those mechanics seems impossible though.

regarding your pay comment, do you think baseball can keep salaries for quantitative types depressed indefinitely, or will eventually too many industries start competing for their services?
Eno Sarris
12:35
I think it's creeping up from what I can see.
Brendan
12:35
How horrible is it that Bruce is still on the Mets?
Eno Sarris
12:36
Looks like most of the league agrees with our assessment of his defense or he'd have some trade value, no? They should have traded him for any reliever.

12:37
So does it make more sense to build your team to match your extreme park factor (sluggers in COL, Pitchers and D in SF) or to go against the park factor?
Eno Sarris
12:38
I think it makes sense to adjust your park to make it more neutral, like Seattle, San Diego, and New York did.
Dave Stewart
12:38
You nerds don't know what your talking about
Joe
12:38
Is there anything that pitchers can do to increase their spin rates (ie. can it be learned)? Are there characteristics that are common to pitchers with high spin rates (eg. long spindly fingers)?
Eno Sarris
12:39
No, from what I've seen you can only adjust your slot so that you harness more of the spin in the right way. Low spinners should drop down to get more sink and fade from low spin, and high spinners should up the slot to get more ride. Driveline looked into finger length, didn't find anything, but the n was small.

12:39
Assuming agents and players don't object, how would you view a 3-man rotation, each going through order once and have bullpen finish game. Stock roster with mid-rotation guys that can get 9 outs each
Eno Sarris
12:40
Can't get past that first assumption.
