Have pitches that move across the horizontal plane become more effective, relatively speaking, with the new ball. Seems like more and more pitchers are adopting cutters.
Eno Sarris
12:33
Horizontal movement is tied to grounders, and with homers up, it may just be a choice some pitchers are making. Also, cutters are a good way to stave off a declining fastball and/or have a weapon against opposite handed hitters if you don't have a change.

If you could take a team of players--your choice--from 2000 and insert them into the current MLB season, how would that team perform? Pull out all the stops. Big Unit, Pedro Martinez, A-Rod, uh...Brian Giles...
Eno Sarris
12:34
Dude could Brian Giles hit 50 today?

Should the Brewers increase Josh Hader's role? His stuff seems too electric to be used as a LOOGY like he was last night.
Eno Sarris
12:35
Guerra's stuff might play up in the pen, he could take that slot in the rotation. I love Hader.

ENO! Heading on a 14 day PNW vacation. Can you give me one must-visit brewery each for Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver?
Eno Sarris
12:36
Cascade, Holy Mountain and Storm.

Not sure why, but I've been a huge fan of you position player-focused articles lately.  Liking them better than your pitcher ones.  In case you care.

Who would you rather sell in a keep forever league: Bregman or Devers? I have too many 3Bs.
Eno Sarris
12:38
man I still like Bregman. And when it comes to current trade value wrt to peak value, Devers might be the guy to sell right now.

Assuming there is no weird collapse, it looks like we're headed towards a Nats/Cubs NLDS.  The Nats have to be actively hoping they avoid the Cubs if they want a better chance of finally making it to the NLCS, don't they?
Eno Sarris
12:39
Not necessarily. The Cubs pitching seems more touchable this year.

Okay sammich guy, improve upon my lunch.  Baby spinach, baked teriyaki tofu, brie cheese, on a pretzel bagel.

I hate to be one note, but sriracha honey mustard would bring the east and west together real nice.

Will the A's really get more for Gray in the offseason? It doesn't seem like the list of suitors or demand will grow. I feel like they kind of have to move him before this weekend.
Eno Sarris
12:40
Only way they get more is if he goes nuts the final month. Right now, contenders know they are contenders and know their needs. It's a good time.

I just want to join hands with all my fellow Kershaw owners and pray for a full recovery in time for the fantasy playoffs ::prayer hands emoji::

If pitching and batting have WPA metrics, could fielding?

Sample so tiny.

On know you're high on Amed Rosario, but what about Dom Smith?
Eno Sarris
12:41
I like his contact, but I'm a little nervous that it took going to Las Vegas to finally get an impressive slugging percentage. I think he might be underwhelming.
Marissa
12:41
Thoughts on Conforto in center? Or is it too much of a SSS.
Eno Sarris
12:42
Not a natural there, but slimmed down he can fake it for a year.

Dave seems supremely confident in the Dodgers' rotation headed into the playoffs, but I look at these guys (Wood, Hill, Kershaw) and their injury histories and would bet money they're missing at least 1/3 of that trio come October. Should they go after Gray or Darvish and play rotator cuff roulette?
Eno Sarris
12:43
Depends on price, of course, but they are flush with prospects and some of them (Calhoun) would be much better in the American League. I agree with you, I think as much as 2/3 of that top three could be toast in October.

What is the best path forward for the Phillies? I have a whole treatise on how the trade for Hunter Pence was the last great gaffe, and they held all their tradable talent too long in 2011/2012. I'd love to see them target Machado and some international signings, but I worry we're still a good 3-4 years away from pushing playoffs again. What do you think?

PS. Finding out you don't do chips with your sandwiches broke my heart. 60% of sandwiches I eat I put chips inside of, 95% I eat with at least chips on the side.
Eno Sarris
12:44
This year has been v depressing for the Phils, and I thought they were closer than they might be. However, I still like Franco and Crawford, I think they will probably have two or three average to plus outfielders and maybe even a star, have money, Nola is great... I think they might be 2-3 years away.
12:45
PS I put chips inside sandos sometimes, but I can't afford the calories on the side.

Corbin different pitch mix of late? Improvement?
Eno Sarris
12:45
Yeah the velo gap on his changeup is probably the best it's ever been. I like him again.

You're in charge of all beer-related dealings at the new park in Oakland. What would you make sure makes it in?
Eno Sarris
12:46
Fieldwork.
Would be nice to find room for Cellarmaker.
12:47
Every new park should have a good beer bar attached to it like AT&T. A chalkboard bar that doesn't have to have enough beer for 50k people, and can actually offer small batch stuff on the regular.
