Is Clayton Beeter the next Dodgers SP that comes out of no where to become a viable SP? They seem to be stretching him out for a starter's workload like they did with Bobby Miller
Eric A Longenhagen

I'm pretty resolved that he's a reliever. Doesn't have typical starter's athleticism at all. Still good, though. Nasty RP.

Would hunter greene benefit from AAA time ? Why or why not?
Eric A Longenhagen
1:10
Don't think so. He's got to figure out how to make that fastball play against big league hitters, gonna be way easier for him to blow it past dudes at Louisiville.

You have a rep as being pretty hard on the Cardinals farm system (see Yepez and Gorman recently).  Who do you really like in the Cards system?
Eric A Longenhagen
1:15
Lol, Cardinals fans gonna Cardinals fan. Graceffo is for real, also think Randel Clemente and Ramon Mendoza are super interesting. Fwiw, I like Gorman way more, I just don't think he's, you know, Nolan Arenado, which I guess means I'm hard on him rather than for him.

What do we make of Luis Garcia (Nationals) these days.. Flunked very early MLB stints.. yet has destroyed AAA at age 20-21..
Eric A Longenhagen
1:15
Still think he ends up a 50 2B.

Please give us all the actionable dynasty league info you are hoarding - much appreciated.

How up to date are college and high school coaches in developing players for prospective pro careers?
Sir Nerdlington
1:18
The travel ball circuit (at least around us) is focused on optimizing individual skillsets rather than creating teams, baseball IQ, and a lot of the intangibles that are hard to measure. I assume this is optimized for what D1 or pro scouts are looking for.

Is there space for those kids who are good (though lacking the goof tool), but also good teammates, baseball smart, and mentally resilient?
Eric A Longenhagen

These questions mush together. There is extreme person-to-person variation in style of communication and developmental philosophy, if there even is one at all. I would *not* be a good baseball coach, not varsity nor travel ball, whatever. I do think there are "teaching to the test" elements to what Sir Nerdington is describing where travel ball wants to reverse engineer the things a lot of overzealous parents care about. For all but an elite few, the things Nerdington is describing as missing from travel ball are the things that are going to be most useful for any of us or our kids throughout our lives. I think a lot of the travel ball stuff exacerbates pre-existing socioeconomic division in youth baseball. It makes some people A LOT of money and gives many others a start in the game but has many other knock-on effects that at some point either MLB and PG/PBR need to acknowledge and try to help fix.

Any ETA for the next update to the draft prospects on the Board?
Eric A Longenhagen
1:23
Within the next couple of weeks, losing BG and KG made it tough to do as I planned with the amateur boards but I know I've gotta tweak it.

There are a lot of hitter like Hedbert Pérez that are boom and bust based on a hit tool.  Is the pitcher equivalent of that command?
Eric A Longenhagen
1:23
i'd say the equivalent is injury

Nice to have you back on the chat, Eric.  Where do J2 starting pitchers start once they sign?  Is it rare or unlikely they would reach Low A in year one?  Wondering in general or regarding Jarlin Susana more specifically?
Eric A Longenhagen
1:26
Extremely rare, they typically spend the first year in the DSL. Saw Susana this spring: huge velo, maxed out frame, slider was fine, overall wasn't a great look but it was also a 10am scrimmage against D'backs B team types.

How high would GM Eric Longenhagen draft Jacob Berry? Dude can clearly rake but is also unplayable on defense
Eric A Longenhagen
1:26
I'd probably be on the lower end closer to 10-12 than 5
1:27
gonna rapid fire a few and then split....

Sounds like June 6 will be opening day of the complex leagues.  Who are you most interested in seeing and is Rayne Doncon the only answer? 😂
Eric A Longenhagen
1:27
Honestly because most of those guys are here for Extended I'll be champing at the bit for the draft guys to arrive

Are you more worried about Orelvis Martinez’s strikeout rate or more excited about his insane power numbers at this point.
Eric A Longenhagen
1:28
Had a scout text me and say he thought Orelvis was Maikel Franco, which did kinda worry me.

Bryce Miller or Adam Macko? Better chance to stick as starter long term
Eric A Longenhagen
1:29
AHHHHHHHHHHH
Romorr
1:29
I know he's not a prospect, but when you see Keegan Akin looking this good in long relief, and with a lack of starters, trying him again in the rotation is a good move. Or, better to let him succeed in his new role.
Eric A Longenhagen
1:29
I'd let him keep rolling in relief

Any chance Holliday or Termarr fall to Rockies at #10? Also, what is causing Termarr to fall in mocks? Seemed like a consensus top pick and now is slipping slightly.
Eric A Longenhagen
1:31
fatigue perhaps caused by the quality of the pitching he faced during the spring? Some of the others guys have taken a step forward and I'd consider them on par with Johnson, don't think either of those guys get to COL.
Billy G
1:31
Osiris Johnson just can't seem to hit for power in A ball despite his bat speed (Texas Leaguers' has his avg EV at 84.3 and max EV at 106.2). Is he just driving the ball into the ground too much?
Eric A Longenhagen
1:32
Extremely aggressive, way more grounders this year than historically

I didn't see it because I basically don't go on there anymore. I agree that players who would ordinarily go in rounds 20-40 actually have a chance and that developing even one or two of those guys into even a depth guy or low-end big leaguer makes the entire operation worth it. I'm less inclined to point at teams for being dumb individually and more at MLB for imposing minor league affiliate and roster restrictions that make it harder to cast such a wide net.

What is "physicality"?  Sounds like a euphemism but I can't even figure out for what.
Eric A Longenhagen
1:35
Are you big, strong, buff, ripped, muscular, in shape, or do you look like Timothee Chalamet and therefore lack physicality?

Joey Wee-mer? Why-mer?
Eric A Longenhagen

just seeing it both ways has made me unsure of what it is. Think it's Wee

Can you give us a preview of the next couple of teams who's prospect lists are forthcoming?  Thanks!
