No, the new group comes from NYY and is considered promising.
Hello
12:26
Gallen/Chisolm seems to have gotten really mixed reviews on both ends up of the spectrum. What would you consider the likeliest outcome, and do you prefer a side?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:26
I wrote the trade up for the site.
12:27
i prefer Jazz as a prospect (we have him clearly ranked ahead of Gallen) but I at least get what Arizona is doing, which is trying to turn the thing around more quickly. They got a safe, productive big league rotation piece who's under control for several years in exchange for a boom or bust type who probably won't be ready for the bigs for another two years and who will probably need adjustment period once he gets there.
A big dumb idiot
12:28
Lourdes Gurriel Jr is over 550 career PAs with a wRC+ of 121. I know you weren't particularly high on him as a prospect, so I'm curious if your opinion on his bat has warmed at all? (let's not talk about the glove though)
Eric A Longenhagen
12:28
I still think he'll be a low OBP corner guy but i probably should've 45'd him

12:29
Who's the most intriguing prospect that was traded at the deadline?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:30
Elvis Alvarado, the converted outfielder.
Hello
12:30
Do any traded prospects stand out in the fact that you think they will prosper substantially better on their new teams as opposed to their old ones?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:33
I look at Ray Black having a shot to blow up in Milwuakee and both new SFG outfielders Davis and McCarthy have a much clearer path to playing time in SF and might turn into something. I like that SF is just trying a carousel of OFs hoping one turns into something. They'll hit eventually. on a Gerber/Yaz/Mc/Davis/etc guy

On a scale of 1 to 10 how bad was the Aaron Sanchez trade? Two major leaguers + a prospect for a post-hype, 25-year-old, who is rule 5 eligible and blocked at the major league level.
Eric A Longenhagen
12:35
Yeah, Fisher's baseball feel is pretty limited and it would scare me that Houston would fix Sanchez somehow and make the team look bad. But hey, Toronto does this. They've done it with Houston a bunch where they take Houston's overflow (Thornton, Teoscar, David Paulino)
12:36
and try to see if these guys can actually play

The Giants have a 4.5% chance to make the playoffs and the Mets have a 21.8%. Isn't it kinda silly that the Mets are getting so much criticism for keeping Wheeler while the Giants aren't really for keeping Bum?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:36
This is the nature of the Mets and those who discuss the Mets, though.

So, as a Stros fan...I'm stoked to land Grienke, but couldn't help but notice how much our farm system has declined now since the trade deadline. And I'm sure a lot of that 21 ranking is heavily influenced solely by Tucker and Whitley by themselves. Are we about to experience a pre-2010 bottoming out on that front again? Do you think we've taken enough steps to keep the player development cycle churning in the lower minors like the Yankees seem to have?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:38
Houston is good enough at finding and developing pitching that I think they'll be fine in the long run.

Question that will require a long answer: FanGraphs is given control of the expansion Portland team. You are put in charge of running the minor league expansion draft. Each team can protect up to 5 minor leaguers NOT on 40-man rosters. You need to build rosters for AAA, AA, and Hi and Low A (100 total players). You can pick a maximum of 7 players from a team's system and you have to pick at least 1 from each team. What teams would you get the most players from? and the least?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:42
I probably end up with just 1 nationals prospect
12:43
and the high end of teams would be teams with depth, teams who have a lot of players I like beyond the 5 protected.
Philly, NYY, LAD, TBR, SDP
those types of teams
12:44
If someone from that group trying to bring Portland a team sees this, I am interested in running your shit

Is Nick Solak a viable option at any position other than second base?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:44
He's really not a good defender anywhere
Jaff
12:44
Do you think Mauricio Dubon can be the Giants starting second basemen next year?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:45
i think they should try it, yeah

Why were Nick Anderson and Trevor Richards still under the radar entering this season? If you had to slap a FV on them now, what would you give them?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:46
Anderson is 29, Richards graduated the year before. I guess I'd 40+ ANderson? He's 29, decline could occur at any moment, right?
Henry Blundell (art collector)
12:46
Any non 40-man prospects you could see being a commodity now that the hard trade deadline has passed? Kean Wong?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:46
that's the kind of name that I'd put out there: upper-level performer who's just blocked by so much other talent
JSD
12:47
the padres didn't make any moves around the fringe of the roster that will alleviate the upcoming crunch.  whose the best prospect that will get left unprotected?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:48
they can still trade players after the season, before the 40-man roster deadline

12:48
ETA for Gavin Lux is 2021 according to THE BOARD!, do you think it's possible for him to get to the bigs sooner than that? He's been incredibly hot this year.
Eric A Longenhagen
12:48
sure
Jack
12:48
How are Puk, Jefferies, Holmes, and Kaprielian all looking post-injury?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:49
Kap' is 90-93 t95 (way down from hispeak), jefferies 90-92 t94 (down a bit), Holmes has been 91-94 t95
Nate
12:50
And also...any updated thoughts on how Forrest Whitley is doing? I saw where he finally came out and said he's been working to revamp his delivery...good thing? Or not so much?
Eric A Longenhagen
12:50
His age and stuff are still what I'm focused on, I think things will be fine
